{"id":14065,"date":"2025-07-16T12:59:06","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T12:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/14065\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T12:59:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T12:59:06","slug":"ex-sequoia-partner-closes-in-on-400mn-european-tech-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/14065\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Sequoia partner closes in on $400mn European tech fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unlock the Editor\u2019s Digest for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>A former Sequoia Capital Partner who left the Silicon Valley firm after a bitter boardroom battle at Klarna is set to launch a $400mn UK-based venture capital fund. <\/p>\n<p>Matt Miller has been raising money from institutional investors in recent months, according to people familiar with the moves, seeking to become one of the best-funded solo investors focused on backing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/21ea0b48-1df1-4ba5-99b4-1b05e214a538\" data-trackable=\"link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">European tech start-ups<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He has already secured at least $355mn from institutional investors, according to one of the people familiar with the matter, while aiming to reach a final fund size of around $400mn that will also include backing from entrepreneurs. <\/p>\n<p>Miller left Sequoia earlier this year but continues to represent the firm on certain boards, according to those familiar with the matter. In March, UK corporate filings show Miller created a new entity called Evantic Capital. Sequoia is participating in the fund, people familiar with the deal added. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He previously spearheaded Sequoia\u2019s expansion into Europe, helping open the firm\u2019s London office in 2020. However, he announced he would leave Sequoia last year after being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a7e3a6ae-3861-48eb-93a8-6169b6d074a9\" data-trackable=\"link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">embroiled in a boardroom battle at Klarna<\/a>, the Swedish buy-now, pay-later group.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Miller joined Klarna\u2019s board at the start of 2024, and initiated a move to remove Klarna\u2019s board chair and former Sequoia leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/stream\/2f2708a5-f7e1-4ef8-87a2-65e89ea14685\" data-trackable=\"link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Moritz<\/a>.
