{"id":140716,"date":"2025-09-08T02:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T02:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/140716\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T02:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T02:48:12","slug":"london-underground-strikes-disrupt-subway-system-for-millions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/140716\/","title":{"rendered":"London Underground strikes disrupt subway system for millions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON (AP) \u2014 Thousands of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/business-pandemics-race-and-ethnicity-coronavirus-pandemic-london-35dab1435cf3cee0446e7ad76b38d310\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London Underground<\/a> staff on Sunday began a series of strikes over pay and conditions that threaten to shut down the subway system used by millions of people a day.<\/p>\n<p>The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union said its members, including drivers, signalers and maintenance workers, will walk out at various times through Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Transit operator Transport for London said services were severely disrupted on Sunday and there are expected to be few or no trains running Monday through Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The company says it has offered staff a 3.4% pay increase, but the union is holding out for a reduction in the working week from 35 hours to 32 hours.
