President Donald Trump will watch the\u00a0U.S. Open men\u2019s final<\/a>\u00a0from Rolex\u2019s suite in Arthur Ashe Stadium, a person with knowledge of the details said Saturday.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s first appearance at the Grand Slam tournament in New York since 2015 \u2014 before his first run for the White House \u2014 will be Sunday as a guest of the Swiss watchmaker, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because those plans were not publicly revealed.<\/p>\n

Accepting use of Rolex\u2019s suite is noteworthy because it comes weeks after the Trump administration\u00a0imposed a 39% tariff<\/a>\u00a0on Swiss products. That\u2019s more than 2 1\/2 times higher than the one on\u00a0European Union<\/a>\u00a0goods exported to the U.S. and nearly four times higher than on British exports to the U.S. \u2014 which has raised questions about Switzerland\u2019s ability to compete with the 27-member bloc that it neighbors.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s match between No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is the latest high-profile sporting event for Trump after\u00a0the Super Bowl<\/a>\u00a0in New Orleans, the\u00a0Daytona 500<\/a>\u00a0in Florida, as well as UFC fights\u00a0in Miami<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Newark, New Jersey<\/a>, the\u00a0NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0FIFA Club World Cup final<\/a>\u00a0in East Rutherford, New Jersey.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Tennis Association said its policy is to \u201cregularly ask our broadcasters to refrain from showcasing off-court disruptions,\u201d so it\u2019s possible ABC\u2019s telecast of the match Sunday might not include coverage of any protests that might arise.<\/p>\n

Trump frequently attended the U.S. Open more than a decade ago, before he launched his political career, when he lived in New York. He now primarily lives at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, when he\u2019s not in Washington.<\/p>\n

The Trump Organization once controlled a suite at the U.S. Open, adjacent to the television broadcasting booth in Ashe, but\u00a0stopped using it in 2017<\/a>, the first year of Trump\u2019s first term.<\/p>\n

The invitation to use the Rolex suite was first reported by the website Bounces.<\/p>\n

Having a sitting president at the U.S. Open is unusual. It hasn\u2019t happened since Bill Clinton attended in 2000. Former President Barack Obama and wife, Michelle, attended the opening night in 2023.<\/p>\n
