Both Naomi Osaka and Taylor Townsend had memorable US Open tournaments, despite neither coming away with the titles on offer.<\/p>\n

Townsend<\/a> had an extremely busy US Open<\/a>, beginning with the American taking on the revamped mixed doubles event.<\/p>\n

She played alongside compatriot Ben Shelton, but the pair fell to fellow Americans Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

Osaka<\/a> also took on the surprising US Open doubles event<\/a> in New York, but she lost her opener with ATP ace Gael Monfils.<\/p>\n

The former WTA<\/a> number one did, however, go on to enjoy a stunning run in the singles, eventually falling to Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals.<\/p>\n

Anisimova then finished as runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka, with Townsend suffering the same fate in the women\u2019s doubles event.<\/p>\n

Playing alongside Katerina Siniakova, she lost out on another Grand Slam success to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, who also lifted the trophy in 2023.<\/p>\n

Doubles world number one Townsend, who also enjoyed a strong singles run, has since taken to social media to celebrate her journey.<\/p>\n

She wrote on Instagram: \u201cLike that. Pics say it all, but I\u2019m so proud and grateful,\u201d with her fellow WTA star Osaka commenting: \u201cYour hardware collection grows every tournament it\u2019s sickening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Townsend fell agonisingly short of further glory alongside Siniakova, with that duo having enjoyed huge success in their doubles careers.<\/p>\n

They clinched their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2024, incidentally beating Dabrowski and Routliffe in London.<\/p>\n

And that was followed up by a second title at the 2025 Australian Open, where they defeated Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko to lift the trophy.<\/p>\n

Siniakova has also taken to Instagram to celebrate their latest journey, tagging Townsend with the words: \u201cGrateful for the past two weeks, we will come back stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Townsend thinks women\u2019s doubles is in a great place<\/a> right now, but her exciting singles career also entered the spotlight in New York.<\/p>\n
