Hungary manager Marco Rossi believes Liverpool\u2019s Dominik Szoboszlai can be \u2018best in the world\u2019 in an unfamiliar position, having excelled in said role for the national team.<\/p>\n

Hungary<\/a> boss Marco Rossi<\/a> has proposed a surprising position change for Arne Slot<\/a> involving Dominik Szoboszlai<\/a> during the international break.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Szoboszlai, who has impressed playing right-back for Liverpool<\/a> this season, recently scored a stunning free-kick against Arsenal to secure a 1-0 victory<\/a> over last\u00a0season\u2019s\u00a0Premier League runners-up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the former RB Leipzig\u00a0star\u2019s\u00a0national team manager has suggested another role for the 24-year-old after he impressed in this position for Hungary during international duty.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rossi\u2019s\u00a0suggestion stems from\u00a0Szoboszlai\u2019s\u00a0display in the\u00a0Tricolours\u2019\u00a02-2 draw with the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, despite playing most of the second half with 10 men after Roland Sallai<\/a>‘s\u00a0red card in the 52nd minute.<\/p>\n

Rossi stated that while Szoboszlai has shown his ability in various roles, he believes the\u00a024-year-old\u2019s\u00a0true potential lies in a defensive midfield position.<\/p>\n

\u201cDominik\u00a0Szoboszlai\u2019s\u00a0defensive play was positive. After the sending off, we switched to a 5-3-1, so we could no longer put pressure on the opponent,\u201d\u00a0Rossi said in comments seen on TBR Football<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can play in any position, as he has proven in the Premier League, but we think he can be one of the best in the world in the number six, defensive midfield position.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite\u00a0Rossi\u2019s\u00a0suggestion, defensive midfield is a role Szoboszlai has yet to play for Liverpool, as Ryan Gravenberch<\/a> currently occupies the position.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Szoboszlai has instead\u00a0been\u00a0used\u00a0in more attacking roles, including as an advanced midfielder and, more recently, as a makeshift right-back.<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u00a0have\u00a0several options for the defensive midfield role, with Gravenberch as the primary choice under Arne Slot.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Dutchman’s\u00a0successful second season at Anfield, which saw him named Premier League Young Player of the Season, has cemented his position at the base of the midfield.<\/p>\n

Wataru Endo<\/a>, who joined from Stuttgart in 2023, offers an experienced alternative but has struggled for game time, making just 20 league appearances under Slot last season.<\/p>\n

Stefan Bajcetic<\/a> is also a candidate, although his injury record has limited his minutes, and his profile may suit a more box-to-box role.<\/p>\n

With Alexis Mac Allister<\/a> also capable of playing in a deeper position, Slot has a range of players who can cover this role besides the makeshift use of Szoboszlai.\u00a0<\/p>\n
