White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt<\/a> has been mocked for sharing a video of President Donald Trump<\/a> at the U.S. Open final in New York City<\/a>, hailing him as the \u201ccoolest boss ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump generated loud boos<\/a> \u2013 and some cheers \u2013 on Sunday during his first appearance at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens for a decade for the men\u2019s final of the Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

Despite remaining stony-faced as Carlos Alcaraz defeated Janick Sinner<\/a> inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the president took delight in signing several hats, including a red MAGA cap, and tossing them back to the crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe People\u2019s President and the coolest boss ever,\u201d Leavitt wrote on X<\/a>, along with a clip of the president signing autographs. \u201cSigning hats for fans at the #USOpen.\u201d<\/p>\n

While MAGA pounced on the moment to evidence the president\u2019s popularity, critics were quick to point out Trump\u2019s frosty reception.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe got booed for a minute straight,\u201d one person replied to Leavitt\u2019s post.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is signing hats for the people that booed him?,\u201d another person wrote.<\/p>\n

Trump emerged from the Rolex suite \u2013 weeks after hitting Switzerland with 39 percent tariffs<\/a> \u2013 about 45 minutes before the match started with no announcement over the Tannoy.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s visit triggered extra security checks, causing long lines and delays<\/a> that left many fans missing the start of play \u2013 even after organizers pushed back the match.<\/p>\n

Standing in salute, the president was shown smirking on the Jumbotron during the National Anthem to further jeers, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n

Trump was again displayed on the big screen as Alcaraz took the lead after the first set, and elicited a roar of louder boos and piercing whistles.<\/p>\n

As Alcaraz celebrated after clinching his sixth Grand Slam, the camera panned to Trump whose reaction was as muted, which, according to AP, it had been throughout most of the match.<\/p>\n

Among those attending with Trump were Leavitt, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the president\u2019s appearance at the Open, the United States Tennis Association advised broadcasters not to televise the crowd\u2019s reaction to the president\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n

An email from the USTA, first obtained by journalist Ben Rothenberg<\/a>, read: \u201cWe ask all broadcasters to refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the President\u2019s attendance in any capacity, including ENG [Electronic News Gathering] coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n
