Charlie Sheen is just happy he\u2019s here to tell his own tale.<\/p>\n
The star\u2019s new memoir, \u201cThe Book of Sheen<\/a>,\u201d is full of shocking moments\u00a0straight from his birth. \u201cI was born dead,\u201d he writes \u2014\u00a0strangled by the umbilical cord and revived. At 15, he lost his virginity to a Vegas hooker paid for with a credit card belonging to his dad, actor Martin Sheen. <\/p>\n There are enough drugs in the book to bring down an elephant, leading to a a near-fatal cocaine overdose in 1998 and seven trips to rehab. Not to mention his HIV diagnosis in 2011.<\/a><\/p>\n With eight years of sobriety \u2014\u00a0and, he told Page Six, celibacy \u2014 he felt real \u201cgratitude\u201d celebrating his 60th birthday last week. (He celebrated with a family lunch and a trip to the spa with one of his sons.)<\/p>\n Charlie Sheen was all smiles at the premiere of Netflix\u2019s \u201caka Charlie Sheen\u201d documentary. Rob Latour\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of this should be viewed as gravy,\u201d he said of still being here. \u201cIt\u2019s borrowed time or my 10th life, because I think I get one more than all those cats.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s absolutely not lost on me that a story like mine is usually only told \u2026 in memorial, you know what I\u2019m saying?\u201d<\/p>\n Sheen embraced his girlfriends, Natalie Kenly and porn star Bree Olson, onboard a yacht in February 2011. SHADY \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n The people around him are grateful, too, but also cautious.<\/p>\n In the documentary \u201caka Charlie Sheen,<\/a>\u201d premiering Wednesday on Netflix, his friend and former \u201cTwo and a Half Men\u201d co-star Jon Cryer admits he had \u201ctrepidation\u201d about taking part.<\/p>\n \u201cPart of the cycle of Charlie Sheen\u2019s life has been that he messes up terribly, he hits rock bottom and then he gets things going again and he brings a lot of positivity in his life \u2014 and that\u2019s when he burns himself out again and he just can\u2019t help but set that house on fire,\u201d Cryer says on-camera.<\/p>\n Sheen was sent to court-mandated rehab in 1998. AP<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I didn\u2019t want to be a part of that cycle \u2026 I\u2019m not here to build him up and I\u2019m not here to tear him down, but I sure hope this doesn\u2019t go bad.\u201d<\/p>\n Sheen says he found Cryer\u2019s comments \u201cincredibly insightful\u201d but also thought, \u201cWell, s\u2013t, Jon, you could have laid that on me a couple decades ago and I would\u2019ve given you half of what I spent on therapy and rehab and everything else!\u201d<\/p>\n Cryer witnessed first-hand Sheen\u2019s most notorious period. In 2011, the sitcom had to stop filming for Sheen to check into drug rehab; once out, he publicly slammed CBS and show creator Chuck Lorre over and over, leading to his firing. And then there were the infamous interviews in which he claimed to have \u201ctiger blood<\/a>\u201d in his veins and that he was \u201ca Vatican assassin warlock.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n Sheen and his ex-wife Denise Richards at the premiere of his Netflix doc \u201caka Charlie Sheen\u201d Richards appears in the film. Page Six<\/p>\n Sheen says he hopes to reconcile with daughter Sami, revealing they have not spoken in a year after a falling-out over her OnlyFans career Sami Sheen \/ Instagram<\/p>\n He blames it on being high, but also on using too much testosterone cream <\/a>to boost his libido while living with two girlfriends.<\/p>\n That same year, he was rushed to the hospital with crippling headaches and informed he was HIV+. He then went to Mexico and stayed \u201chammered\u201d for the next two years.<\/p>\n Detailed in the book and documentary, Sheen\u2019s sexual escapades are a whirlwind of threesomes, prostitutes, nights at the Playboy mansion and flings with men while high<\/a> \u2014\u00a0about which he says in the film, \u201cI flipped the menu over.\u201d<\/p>\n The actor is a grandfather to Luna, the daughter of his eldest child, Cassandra, and her husband, Casey Huffman. cassandrajadehuffman\/Facebook<\/p>\n Sheen rose to fame in the 1980s with \u201cPlatoon\u201d and \u2018Wall Street\u201d and \u201cMajor League,\u201d but readily admits he also signed up for some less-than-acclaimed films to pay for drugs.<\/p>\n \u201cI was always pretty good friends with my dealers,\u201d he said. \u201cI know that\u2019s funny. When you let him hang out, when you let him stay for the party, you usually get a better rate on the dope \u2014\u00a0but there is a connection because I was only doing those shitty films to keep funding the habits.\u201d<\/p>\n Recounting his slide from weed to cocaine to crack, the one drug Sheen doesn\u2019t mention in his book is ketamine, from which his pal, \u201cFriends\u201d star Matthew Perry suffered a fatal overdose <\/a>in October 2023.<\/p>\n Sheen was married to Donna Peele in 1995, but the marriage only lasted a year. It just wasn\u2019t a color I knew I would look good in.\u201d<\/p>\n It is a miracle that Sheen didn\u2019t follow Perry\u2019s footsteps. The actor hosted a support group that Sheen attended a few times (he\u2019s careful to add that he\u2019s \u201cnot violating any code\u201d by talking about it).<\/p>\n \u201cMatt and I shared a deeper truth we saw in each other \u2014 we were both, as Bobby Dee Jay used to say, \u2018veterans of the unspeakable,’\u201d Sheen writes.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sheen writes about his connection with Matthew Perry. Benett<\/p>\n Bobby Dee Jay is what he calls Robert Downey Jr., who has had his own great comeback story after time in the Hollywood gutter.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had that common ground instantly with each other,\u201d Sheen says of Perry.<\/p>\n He devoured Perry\u2019s 2022 memoir, \u201cFriends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,\u201d in one day. In it, Perry wrote how, weeks before landing \u201cFriends,\u201d he prayed for fame after watching a TV report on Sheen\u2019s troubles.<\/p>\n Jon Cryer (center, between Sheen and Angus T. It cracked me up when there\u2019s a story about me on the news and he was like, \u2018F\u2013k Charlie Sheen, I\u2019m going to be just as famous one day.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018You go, Matt.\u2019 And then I was going to call him, just reach out and try to meet him up for a cup of coffee or something. And regrettably, I didn\u2019t. And Jesus, three weeks later he died.\u201d<\/p>\n Sheen was at a party with Perry when he met his future wife Brooke Mueller.<\/a><\/p>\n Sheen found fame in the 1986 Oliver Stone movie \u201cPlatoon\u201d. \u00a9Orion Pictures Corp\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n Jennifer Grey helped him land a breakout role on \u201cFerris Bueller\u2019s Day Off\u201d.<\/p>\n Their marriage, which lasted from 2008-2011, was blighted by admitted drug use on both sides that led to custody battles over their twin sons, Bob and Max, now 16. The boys were living with him, but Bob has been traveling with his mom this summer.<\/p>\n \u201cEven though it might appear that I was a little harder on Brooke than I was on Denise [Richards, another ex], that was justified. But [Mueller\u2019s] doing great,\u201d he said. \u201cOur kids deserve better than [to] read about a bunch of stuff that happened, but that doesn\u2019t really inform any part of how we all function currently.\u201d<\/p>\n He is unfailingly polite in the book about his wives and partners.\u00a0Sheen shares daughter Cassandra, 40, with his high-school girlfriend Paula Profit, and they are grandparents to granddaughter Luna, 12. He wed model Donna Peele in 1995, but it only lasted a year. His marriage to Richards lasted from 2002-2006 and produced two daughters,\u00a0Sami, 21, and Lola, 20.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201c\u2018The Book of Sheen\u201d is out Tuesday.
