Detroit Pistons free agent guard Malik Beasley is not out of the water for allegations regarding gambling on NBA games and prop bets.

Despite no longer being considered a “target” in a federal investigation, the NBA confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday that the league is conducting its own investigation into those gambling allegations against Beasley while he was with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023-24.

Beasley, 28, is “fully cooperating” with the NBA investigation, according to his attorney Steve Haney.

The federal investigation was initially reported on June 29, being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

The ongoing investigation eventually led to Haney claiming Beasley was no longer a target on Aug. 22. However, the revelation of the investigation had already stalled out contract negotiations Beasley was in the midst of with the Pistons.

He was reportedly set to sign a lucrative multi-year contract worth $42 millions over three years. But before pen went to paper, the Pistons decided to pivot.

Beasley played a key role in bringing Detroit back to the playoffs last season after signing a one-year deal, averaging 16.3 points on 41.6% shooting from beyond the arc and amassing the second-most threes in the NBA. He finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Following the announcement Beasley was no longer a target, it was reported that the Pistons as well as the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knick and Cleveland Cavaliers checked in on the free agent guard.

Beasley teased earlier this week on social media that he is nearing a decision for where he intends to sign. Barring some sort of punishment coming down from the NBA after they conclude their investigation, Beasley will be back on a roster just a few months removed from the start of a chaotic free agency window.

If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
