Queen Latifah shared how she\u2019s reclaiming her power while experiencing menopause during a recent interview on \u201cToday With Jenna & Friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things that we love about you is that you always use your voice for good,\u201d host Jenna Bush Hager said on a Wednesday episode<\/a> while sitting down with the music icon, whose real name is Dana Owens. \u201cAnd now you\u2019re talking about something that all of us are gonna need to know about, which is menopause,\u201d adding that when she was growing up, it wasn\u2019t a topic her mother or grandmother talked about with her.<\/p>\n

Latifah responded that menopause isn\u2019t a subject that has been \u201cdiscussed a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStill a lot of people have a problem with saying the word,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is something we gotta get comfortable with as women.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cU.N.I.T.Y\u201d rapper said that menopause is not \u201ctaboo\u201d and that \u201cmenopause care should not be a luxury,\u201d and should be accessible to those who need it. \u201cWe\u2019re all gonna feel it, and we\u2019re all gonna go through it. Our hormones are gonna change as we age.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel more powerful and more empowered when I know what\u2019s going on with my body and I can make a decision about it,\u201d she stated. <\/p>\n

In an interview with People,<\/a> the \u201cLiving Single\u201d actor detailed her experience hearing the word from her doctor, and how the doctor made the experience less \u201cscary\u201d \u2014 but she realizes how this can be daunting for anyone going through it.<\/p>\n
