Stefanos Tsitsipas shared a concerning fitness update recently after his second-round exit at the US Open.<\/p>\n

After losing to Daniel Altmaier in the second round, Tsitsipas said he reaggravated a back injury<\/a> that had been troubling him for several months.<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas wasn\u2019t able to confirm or deny whether he would be fit to participate in Greece\u2019s upcoming Davis Cup<\/a> tie with Brazil.<\/p>\n

The winners of the tie will advance to the qualifying round in 2026, where Brazil or Greece would be one match away from the Davis Cup Finals.<\/p>\n

With Greek fans desperate to see their star man take to the court, Tsitsipas<\/a> has now revealed whether he will compete this weekend.<\/p>\n

Stefanos Tsitsipas says he is fit for the Davis Cup and wants to play \u2018as much as possible\u2019<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas is scheduled to play three of the five matches, following his recovery from injury.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the schedule, Tsitsipas gave the all-important fitness update during the pre-match press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason this happened is that I believe I\u2019m ready for three games. I want to be given the opportunity to play as much as possible at this stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old can\u2019t wait to get back on court, as he expressed his love for the Davis Cup on X.<\/p>\n

The two-time Grand Slam finalist has big dreams for the 38th-best team in the Davis Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal and dream is to one day win the Davis Cup with the team,\u201d said Tsitsipas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt may sound outrageous because we don\u2019t have a second player who is in the Top 50 or Top 100, but I think it doesn\u2019t matter right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat matters is that we fight with what we have and with what we can, to reach as high as possible in the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI personally don\u2019t look for money or anything in this. I do it solely out of passion for my country, I do it for my team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas went into further detail about his love for the Davis Cup and team competitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is more pride when you go out on the court. When I play on the tour, the feeling is different when I am on the court. Sharing these moments with the kids is something that gives me more motivation, because I feel like I am playing for something more than myself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always been excited to play for Greece; it has always given me a boost and motivation. I have always been excited by the idea of \u200b\u200bthe Davis Cup, the United Cup<\/a>, the team events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team events create a completely different aura, and I would say that they are one of the most beautiful weeks of the year. This week gives me the most rejuvenation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas has played 16 total matches at the Davis Cup throughout his career and holds an impressive 13-3 record.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s only lost one singles match at the Davis Cup, falling to Slovakia\u2019s Alex Molcan in 2023.<\/p>\n

Alex Molcan defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 (2023 Davis Cup World Group first round)<\/p>\n

Hoping to avoid a second defeat in 2025, Tsitsipas will play both Thiago Seyboth Wild and Joao Fonseca<\/a> this weekend.<\/p>\n

Tsitsipas will play his first match since the US Open against Seyboth Wild on Saturday, September 13.<\/p>\n
