Syracuse, N.Y. \u2014 Syracuse improved to 2-1 on the season by dominating Colgate 66-24<\/a> Friday night in the JMA Wireless Dome.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the best of what we heard from coaches and players after the game.<\/p>\n

Fran Brown<\/p>\n

On Steve Angeli tying the school\u2019s single-game touchdown record<\/p>\n

\u201cJust the fact that you said Jim Brown and Eric Dungey, I mean, that\u2019s amazing to say that. Anybody that joins anything with Jim Brown, I mean, they should just go along and just sit back and think and be thankful just for who he is. I think Syracuse football is Jim Brown; it is 44.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Steve is working really, really hard. He has great character. He\u2019s a good football player, and he\u2019s continuously getting better.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the importance of building a local recruiting pipeline<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would you leave? Why do you have to go anywhere else? Before it was like everybody from here \u2026 I don\u2019t know how to say this without trying to go at any other coach that was here. But a lot of people went other places and went to try to do those things at other places to succeed and be successful. I think, why would you have to do that?<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you can come to Syracuse, get a great education, play really big-time football and have an opportunity to be seen every Saturday, there\u2019s nothing better. You play Saturday, play Friday night, go to church Sunday with your whole family, come right back (for) study hall Sunday evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it\u2019s the best of both worlds here. I always stay here and do it, I\u2019m just trying to make sure everyone understands that there\u2019s a pipeline. You\u2019re not leaving. You\u2019re coming to play for me if you\u2019re from this area.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Demetres Samuel Jr. recording his first interception, reception and punt return<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s barely 17 years old, and he should be a senior (in high school). He\u2019s just constantly getting more and more comfortable in the game. He\u2019s getting more and more comfortable in our coaching style, just coaching him and pushing him.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Tylik Hill\u2019s explosive runs, interaction afterward<\/p>\n

\u201cTalik broke two real good runs, and then he just runs off the field. And I\u2019m like, \u2018What the freak are you doing?\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI gotta let my boy eat, too,\u201d Brown said of Hill\u2019s response.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d Brown said with a laugh.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, listen, that\u2019s your job, but that\u2019s the type of love for each other. Most people wouldn\u2019t do that. They just want to stay in and go. I\u2019m happy that they got to get in, to show us if those guys both get hurt and the older guys, we got young guys that can play all over the field.\u201d<\/p>\n

On what it\u2019s like playing alongside Demetres Samuel Jr. <\/p>\n

\u201cI forget sometimes I\u2019ll be talking about stuff, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Dude, you\u2019re supposed to be in high school right now. Like, what\u2019s going on?\u2019 I\u2019m in my senior year of college, and it\u2019s unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n

On three quarterbacks scoring touchdowns<\/p>\n

\u201cMan, I was fired up for those guys. Seeing Rick respond and throw a touchdown was awesome. And Luke, one play one touchdown, I told him, I said, \u2018Man, I wish I had that when I was first going.\u2019 All you need is one, and I loved the celebration after.\u201d <\/p>\n

Demetres Samuel Jr. <\/p>\n

On his interception <\/p>\n

\u201cOur coaches do a great job of getting us a good scouting report. And then I was playing man on the (receiver), and when I looked up, I was like, \u2018There\u2019s no way he threw the ball.\u2019 I seen it, and I just went and go got the ball. He\u2019s not catching it on me.<\/p>\n

Darrell Gill Jr. <\/p>\n

On watching the younger receivers succeed<\/p>\n

\u201cThey went out in the third and fourth quarter, and they did their thing, balled out. I didn\u2019t even have to say anything. I sat back and watched, and was just jumping up and down and being proud.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what I wanted to happen. We was talking about it in practice all week like, \u201cY\u2019all finna get in; y\u2019all finna get in.\u2019 I\u2019ve been wanting that to happen the whole week, so I\u2019m glad that it got to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaylan Hornsby<\/p>\n

On Darrell Gill Jr.\u2019s 43-yard acrobatic touchdown <\/p>\n

\u201cI always knew that Gill could do that. I was more so surprised that he actually did it in-game, because in practice, sometimes he be acting a little scared. But when he did it in-game, I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, that\u2019s the Gill that I knew, we all know Gill could do that.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a spectacular catch. I made sure he knew that when he got on the sideline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Will Nixon<\/p>\n

On Luke Carney\u2019s touchdown<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call him Tim Tebow. He\u2019s actually really fast. It was cool to see. He just came in for that one play and scored a touchdown.\u201d<\/p>\n

Darien Williams<\/p>\n

On why he chose Syracuse<\/p>\n

\u201cFran Brown. He\u2019s just an amazing coach, amazing person. He\u2019ll never lie to you, he\u2019ll never tell you something for what it is. And he\u2019s just gonna always be straight up with you. And he pushes us to be the best, no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n
