SUNRIVER, Ore. — Tom Weber is an amateur tour golfer. Two years ago, he nearly died on the greens in Sunriver.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“It\u2019s incredible. My cardiologist said \u2018if you didn\u2019t have that level of care, you wouldn\u2019t be here,\u2019” Weber said. “So they couldn\u2019t have done any better. Kudos.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sunriver Resort hosted the U.S. Am Tour on its Crosswater Golf Course in 2023. Weber was practicing on the green when he started to feel like something was wrong.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I was standing by the 18th green with some other golfers and Tom and his partner Brett drove up in a cart and he wasn\u2019t doing well,” Tommy Moore said. “He was basically passed out. He drove up to me and said there\u2019s an issue, I radioed and said \u2018let\u2019s call 911 and get back to the cart barn.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Moore and two other workers were simply in the right place at the right time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“With Tommy on the phone with 911 and him shouting out instructions on what to do, and Dave with his experience from a previous career, we luckily had all the right people in place willing to take action and maintain life support until EMTs could arrive,\u201d Mark Meyer said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Their quick response saved Weber’s life in a situation where any delay could mean death.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he was out in the far reaches of the golf course, it might have been a different story because seconds matter, minutes matter before brain damage starts to occur and it gets to the point where you can\u2019t bring someone back,\u201d Dave Pitts said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fast forward to 2025 and the championship round of the tour returned to the resort — and so did Weber in high spirits.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI got through 72 holes versus nine holes before,” Weber said. “That\u2019s a big joke with my friends, they\u2019re like \u2018Hey we got him through nine holes! We got him to the 10th tee! Fantastic!'”<\/p>\n
After he finished golfing, Weber met the people who saved his life and shared his gratitude with them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“A big thank you to Sunriver resort for being right on it from a medical perspective,” Weber said. “Part of it\u2019s luck, but part of it is preparation, and they were right on it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although he’s still recovering, that won’t stop him from doing what he loves.\u00a0<\/p>\n
