John Barrett \u2162, D-North Adams<\/a>, remembers playing Little League at 27 Stetson Road, when it was mostly an open area with not much built on it. Over 60 years later, with a multi-use trail, skate park, and a brand-new fitness court, Barrett is amazed at how far things have come.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img alt=\"Map of new fitness court\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full white\" width=\"1240\" height=\"1126\" data- \/><\/p>\n<p>                                    Created with Datawrapper<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat it\u2019s grown from\u00a0\u2014\u00a0from the Little League [field] that I played [on] back in 1960\u00a0\u2014 to what it is today \u2026 It\u2019s unbelievable,\u201d Barrett said. \u201cIt\u2019s a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Barrett was one of many who attended the opening of Williamstown\u2019s new outdoor fitness court, beside the Mohican Trail on Wednesday afternoon. The town\u2019s community preservation act funds covered most of the rest of the cost, and the town\u2019s Department of Public Works provided around $20,000 in sand and labor value to help.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img alt=\"An event at an outdoor fitness center\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full white\" width=\"1762\" height=\"1176\" data- \/><\/p>\n<p>A grand opening was held Wednesday at the new outdoor Fitness Court at 27 Stetson Road in Williamstown.\u00a0\u201cI think it\u2019s great,\u201d personal trainer Ashleigh Yager said. \u201cI hope it looks fun enough that it\u2019ll get people involved that might otherwise not move their bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkshireeagle.com\/users\/profile\/Gillian%20Jones\" rel=\"author nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GILLIAN HECK \u2014 THE BERKSHIRE EAGLE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The overall project took about 18 months, Menicocci said.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the second fitness court of its type to open in Western Massachusetts. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkshireeagle.com\/multimedia\/lee-mass-outdoor-fitness-center-free-exercise-equipement\/collection_15e892da-20cf-11ee-9a73-efdd85058c1d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The first, in Lee<\/a>, opened in July 2023 behind Lee Middle &amp; High School.<\/p>\n<p>Williamstown is one of 18 current campaign partners building a network of fitness courts across the state, with the help of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, according to a press release. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is a community-focused, tax-paying, not-for-profit health plan headquartered in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>The fitness court, for ages 14 and up, has seven exercise stations, and the court is designed to provide a full-body workout in seven minutes, according to the National Fitness Campaign.<\/p>\n<p>National Fitness Campaign is a wellness consulting firm that provides programs and services to cities, schools and sponsors with a mission to build healthy communities nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img alt=\"People work out at an outdoor fitness center\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full white\" width=\"1763\" height=\"1175\" data- \/><\/p>\n<p>Fitness Coach Ashleigh Yager demonstrates one of the stations at the new outdoor Fitness Court located at 27 Stetson Road in Williamstown during the opening ceremony on Wednesday.\u00a0The fitness court cost around $150,000.<\/p>\n<p>                                    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.berkshireeagle.com\/users\/profile\/Gillian%20Jones\" rel=\"author nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GILLIAN HECK \u2014 THE BERKSHIRE EAGLE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yager, who teaches wellness classes and physical education yoga at Williams College, led about 10 people in a workout on the court. Kennedy&#8217;s presidency and the \u201cbig beginning of physical fitness.\u201d Physical fitness was \u201cingrained in us and the town at that time,\u201d Barrett said, adding that it\u2019s important to invest in recreational activities.<\/p>\n<p>Menicocci said there are no set hours for the fitness court, and anyone is welcome to use it.
