JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 For many people living paycheck to paycheck or with a criminal record, landing a job can feel impossible.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why Normandy Park Baptist Church on Jacksonville\u2019s Westside is stepping in to help.<\/p>\n
The church is hosting \u201cA Better Job Fair\u201d on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and job seekers are encouraged to come interview-ready.<\/p>\n
Pastor Troy Dixon said the job fair is focused on connecting people with employers who believe in second chances.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur job fair right now has about 18 different employers, and we\u2019ve got half a dozen community partners, ministries, organizations, that will help them file resumes, prepare for job interviews, and things like that,\u201d Dixon said.<\/p>\n
The church has partnered with the nonprofit Better Together, which helps provide resources for families in need. This is the third year the church has hosted the job fair.<\/p>\n
Dixon said the event is about more than just employment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hold it every March and September. And we do it because we are a church. And of course, we\u2019re concerned about spiritual needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The goal, he added, is to give people a second chance while also providing hope for the future.<\/p>\n
