Pedro Martinez<\/a> brought Spain back from the brink of elimination in the Davis Cup Qualifiers second round<\/a> on Sunday, when the World No. 67 upset Holger Rune<\/a> in dramatic fashion to help his country book a spot at the Final 8. <\/p>\n With Spain trailing 1-2 in the Marbella tie, Martinez saved a match point with Rune serving at 5-3, 40\/30 in the deciding set. He went on to crucially complete a break of serve in that game before sealing a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(3) triumph. <\/p>\n That set the stage for former World No. 10 Pablo Carreno Busta<\/a>, who duly overcame Elmer Moeller<\/a> 6-2, 6-3 to ensure the six-time champion Spain will compete in the Final 8 in November in Bologna. Earlier in the day, Martinez and Jaume Munar<\/a> had reenergised Spanish hopes with a vital 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 doubles win against August Holmgren<\/a> and Johannes Ingildsen<\/a>. <\/p>\n With his singles victory against Rune, Martinez improved to 2-0 in his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Rune. The 28-year-old Spaniard also downed the Dane in straight sets in Rotterdam in February. <\/p>\n “The feeling [at Davis Cup] is totally different,\u201d said Martinez after his win. \u201cMaybe I get more nervous but, this adrenaline, it doesn’t work on some players. On me it gives me an extra motivation to play full. I feel the nerves, but I can handle them, and I think this motivation plays in my favour. <\/p>\n “Hopefully I can continue playing like this in Davis Cup. For me it’s one of the most important things in my career.”<\/p>\n Collingnon The Hero Again For Belgium Having battled cramps on Saturday during a three-set upset of World No. 8 Alex de Minaur<\/a>, Collignon outlasted Vukic 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3 to earn Belgium a stunning 3-2 win at Ken Rosewall<\/a> Arena. Rinky Hijikata<\/a> and Jordan Thompson<\/a> prevailed 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles rubber against Sander Gille<\/a> and Joran Vliegen<\/a>, before De Minaur downed Zizou Bergs<\/a> 6-2, 7-5. Yet the 23-year-old Collignon had other ideas. <\/p>\n “Yesterday was very demanding physically,” said Collignon after his win over Vukic, as reported by the Davis Cup website<\/a>. “I was trying to recover as well as I could for today. It was a long day to wait but I tried to recover as I could to be ready for this match and I\u2019m very happy how I played. <\/p>\n “Physically I was feeling okay. With adrenaline and the energy from the bench it was crazy, I didn\u2019t feel the legs at all. It was a crazy atmosphere and a crazy match.” <\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
