{"id":158318,"date":"2025-09-15T11:48:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T11:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/158318\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T11:48:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T11:48:10","slug":"a%cc%8anderkleiva-fishing-facility-by-snohetta-bridges-rocky-outcrops-in-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/158318\/","title":{"rendered":"A\u030anderkleiva fishing facility by Sn\u00f8hetta bridges rocky outcrops in Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A curved volume wrapped in black-glass panels stretches between two rocky outcrops at A\u030anderkleiva, the headquarters of a fishing company in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/norway\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Norway<\/a>, by architecture studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/snohetta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sn\u00f8hetta<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Located on a narrow plot in the northern municipality of Ibestad, the 1,510-square-metre building has been created for Magne Arvesen &amp; S\u00f8nner on a site adjacent to its existing fish pens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247427 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_22-852x113.jpeg\" alt=\"A\u030anderkleiva fish farming facility by Sn\u00f8hetta\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Sn\u00f8hetta has created the headquarters for a fishing company in Norway<\/p>\n<p>A\u030anderkleiva&#8217;s defining feature is its upper levels, which are wrapped in black glass and curve between two rocky outcrops, supported in the middle by a large concrete column wrapped in Corten steel.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snohetta.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sn\u00f8hetta<\/a>, this design was intended to echo the surrounding hills while ensuring the interiors look forward towards the sea and the company&#8217;s aquaculture facilities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247437 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_32-852x639.jpeg\" alt=\"Industrial facility in Ibestad\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1773\"  \/>It has a curved form to echo the surrounding hills<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The curved shape is a direct response to the site conditions,&#8221; Sn\u00f8hetta architect Marius Hauland N\u00e6ss told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By anchoring the structure at both ends and pushing the centre outward toward the sea, we achieved a sweeping arc that creates a striking experience: a taut outer facade facing the ocean, the fish pens, and the elements, and a sheltered inner side nestled against the mountain,&#8221; added Hauland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247409 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_4-852x1136.jpeg\" alt=\"A\u030anderkleiva fish farming facility by Sn\u00f8hetta\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>It bridges two rocky outcrops<\/p>\n<p>Inside, A\u030anderkleiva contains office spaces, industrial halls, storage facilities and an aquaculture learning and innovation centre. Its elevated positioning means it is accessed from two levels, and there is space for large vehicles and machinery to pass beneath it.<\/p>\n<p>Office areas are reached from a road linking to the fourth floor, while the learning centre is accessed at ground level.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247407 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1136.jpeg\" alt=\"Black-glass facade\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The black-glass facade was chosen to reflect the landscape<\/p>\n<p>The facade of the upper volume, which is wrapped in black glass with stainless steel fins, was designed to reflect the landscape, creating an ever-changing elevation for the building.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The facade was deliberately designed as a reflective glass surface that mirrors its surroundings, especially the dramatic views and shifting weather and light conditions,&#8221; explained Hauland.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The experience of the facade changes depending on where you stand along its curve,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The vertical stainless steel profiles are also reflective and serve to break up the surface while further amplifying the mirrored effect of the environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247406 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x1136.jpeg\" alt=\"A\u030anderkleiva fish farming facility by Sn\u00f8hetta\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The rear elevation features a walkway<\/p>\n<p>According to Hauland, the facade design is not a threat to birds, and the client has &#8220;not experienced any issues&#8221; or collisions since the building\u2019s completion.<\/p>\n<p>The concave rear elevation has a more industrial look, featuring a metal walkway along its length, alongside geometric concrete cladding panels and red window frames.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2018\/11\/21\/snohetta-holmen-industrial-area-fishing-facility-norway-architecture\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/holmen-industrial-area-snohetta-norway-fishing-facility_dezeen_2364_sq-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Holmen Industrial Area fishing facility in Norway by Sn\u00f8hetta\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Sn\u00f8hetta completes colourful fishing facility in Norwegian archipelago\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A\u030anderkleiva&#8217;s interiors were designed to facilitate focus while maintaining visual connections, with a mix of rooms with glass partitions and private workspaces for employees.<\/p>\n<p>According to the studio, the heart of the headquarters is the control room, which overlooks the fish pens.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247416 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x113.jpeg\" alt=\"Fish farming facility\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The industrial halls feature red steelwork<\/p>\n<p>The interiors were finished with an industrial palette, including exposed concrete elements and perforated-metal acoustic panels on the ceilings, chosen to reflect the purpose of the building.<\/p>\n<p>Several red and orange details emulate the buoys of the surrounding water, including the steel framework of the industrial halls.<\/p>\n<p>Outside the main building, Sn\u00f8hetta has also created a separate storage and office facility with a sawtooth roof and concrete cladding that match the rear elevation of the main office building.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2247429 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/anderkleiva-fish-farming-facility-snohetta-architecture-norway-industrial_dezeen_2364_col_24-852x113.jpeg\" alt=\"A\u030anderkleiva fish farming facility by Sn\u00f8hetta\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>Concrete is left exposed for an industrial aesthetic<\/p>\n<p>Sn\u00f8hetta is an architecture and design studio founded by Kjetil Thorsen and Craig Dykers in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>A\u030anderkleiva is not the first industrial fishing facility by the studio.
