Carson Wentz could make some history on Sunday if J.J. McCarthy can\u2019t start for the Vikings when they host the Bengals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCarthy\u2019s status is up in the air after he suffered a high ankle sprain <\/a>against the Falcons last weekend, putting Wentz potentially in line to take on Cincy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If Wentz starts, it would make him the first quarterback in NFL history to have started a game for six different organizations in six straight seasons, according to ESPN\u2019s Bill Barnwell.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Beginning in 2020, Wentz has played for the Eagles (2020), Colts (2021), Commanders (2022), Rams (2023) and Chiefs (2024), with the Vikings potentially being the sixth team in that stretch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wentz started 12 games for the Eagles during the 2020 season and 17 games for the Colts the following season, but he saw significantly less playing time since those two campaigns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old was second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and spent his first five seasons in the league with the Eagles before becoming a journeyman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCarthy suffered his injury during the third quarter in the Vikings\u2019 22-6 loss to the Falcons, Vikings head coach Kevin O\u2019Connell told reporters on Monday.<\/p>\n

It happened on a second-and-20 play where the Vikings QB scrambled and was hit by linebacker Kaden Elliss from behind.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McCarthy was evaluated on the sideline and did finish the game, but he reported heavy soreness on Monday.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connell called it \u201ccrushing\u201d to hear about the injury to McCarthy on Monday and insisted it had nothing to do with his performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, it was pretty crushing this morning to hear [about the injury]. Look, for J.J., he\u2019s in a long process, a long journey right now where there\u2019s going to be some ups and downs,\u201d the Vikings coach said.<\/p>\n
