A doctor has been permanently banned from practicing in New Jersey in an agreement with the state to resolve allegations of misconduct<\/a> including the improper prescribing of drugs. <\/p>\n

A final consent order filed by the state Board of Medical Examiners last week states that John R. McGee has surrendered his medical license and is permanently banned from applying for a license in New Jersey, the state Attorney General\u2019s Office said in a statement on Monday. <\/p>\n

McGee practiced medicine in Bayonne for more than 25 years. <\/p>\n

As part of the agreement, he is also banned from managing, supervising or influencing the practice of medicine in New Jersey. In addition, he is required to notify patients on how to access their medical records and cease all contact with his patients, the state said. He has not been convicted of any crimes as part of the deal. <\/p>\n

The agreement resolves allegations that McGee prescribed controlled dangerous substances using another doctor\u2019s prescription pad, indiscriminately prescribed compound medications including a weight management drug and maintained an inappropriate relationship with a patient, authorities said. <\/p>\n

\u201cNew Jerseyans deserve to know that their healthcare providers meet the highest standards of professionalism and integrity,\u201d New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said. \u201cThis permanent revocation ensures that this physician can no longer endanger patients or compromise public trust in the medical profession.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2016, the state revoked his New Jersey medical license for five years and imposed a cease and desist for the prescription of human growth hormone and controlled dangerous substances. <\/p>\n

His medical license was also revoked in California earlier this year after it was alleged that he misrepresented the status of his New Jersey license on sworn statements submitted to the California state medical board.<\/p>\n

The State Division of Consumer Affairs is asking any patients who were improperly treated by McGee to 800-242-5846 or file a complaint on its website. <\/a><\/p>\n
