{"id":166629,"date":"2025-09-19T01:33:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T01:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/166629\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T01:33:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T01:33:09","slug":"paula-badosa-provides-update-on-her-fitness-after-playing-her-first-match-since-wimbledon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/166629\/","title":{"rendered":"Paula Badosa provides update on her fitness after playing her first match since Wimbledon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Paula Badosa has faced many struggles with injury in recent years, which has recently become very present once again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/paula-badosa-admits-when-she-thought-about-quitting-tennis-after-beating-coco-gauff-at-the-australian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Badosa admittedly nearly quit tennis<\/a> after continued struggles with a chronic back injury that left her on the sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Back injuries have not been the only struggle for the former world number two, with a leg injury also causing her recent struggles.<\/p>\n<p>After being forced to withdraw from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/paula-badosa-shares-emotional-message-on-social-media-amid-injury-struggles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Badosa posted a message to social media<\/a> reflecting on her recent setbacks.<\/p>\n<p>It was then confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/former-world-number-two-set-to-play-for-the-first-time-since-wimbledon-after-injury-comeback-at-the-billie-jean-king-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Badosa would come back for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals<\/a> to represent Spain in Shenzhen for her first tournament since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Paula Badosa Gibert of Spain reacts during match 2 against Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals 2025, Quarter-Final match between Spain and Ukraine at Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre Arena.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2235935336-1024x683.jpg\" \/>Photo by Lintao Zhang\/Getty Images for Billie Jean King CupPaula Badosa provides fitness update after BJK Cup defeat<\/p>\n<p>Despite dropping 10 places in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WTA<\/a> rankings since her last match, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/paula-badosa\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Badosa<\/a> is still the Spanish number one and was required for a really important match in the quarterfinal tie against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>After Spain lost the opening match of the tie, it meant that Badosa needed to beat world number 13 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/elina-svitolina\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elina Svitolina<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although she was able to win the first set, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/elina-svitolina-praised-for-what-she-did-immediately-after-beating-paula-badosa-at-the-billie-jean-king-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Badosa was beaten by Svitolina<\/a>, 5-7 6-2 7-5, in a close-fought match that confirmed Spain\u2019s exit from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/billie-jean-king-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billie Jean King Cup<\/a> Finals.<\/p>\n<p>When reflecting on the defeat in Spain\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/asaptext.com\/asap_media\/media\/1004\/1440\/browse_file.php?browse_file_name=transcripts\/159803.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">post-match press conference<\/a>, Badosa revealed that she had taken motivation from how close she was from beating a top player after two months away from the match court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, I\u2019m sad that we lost as a team,\u201d said Badosa. \u201cI\u2019m really proud of myself because I gave my all. It was a game of margins. It was very tight at the end. I think we both played a very good level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially in my case after two months and a half outside of competition, coming back in this level, playing against I think she\u2019s top 12 in the world, for me means a lot. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gives me motivation to continue on all this faith that I have the level to be there again. Of course, I\u2019m proud of my fight today. In a way sad because I hate to lose, but I\u2019m really proud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Understandably, Badosa was then asked how she was feeling physically after the two-plus hour battle with Svitolina.<\/p>\n<p>Badosa answered by firstly speaking about the response she had received to the aforementioned social media message, before suggesting that she was feeling physically fine, but fatigued, something she claimed would improve when playing more matches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I mean, speaking about the injury, was great. The feedback was amazing,\u201d answered Badosa. \u201cOf course, I need matches. You can feel that sometimes I was getting too tired. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe that, if I was a little bit more fresh, the match would be different. But it is how it is. After all my circumstances, I think it was a good match.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"592\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/image0-592x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"Paula Badosa thanks people for their support in Instagram message after playing at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.\" class=\"wp-image-130766\" \/>Paula Badosa reveals her goals for the rest of the 2025 season<\/p>\n<p>Some players have limited goals for the rest of the season after the US Open, with the next Grand Slam not until January 2026 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, that is not the case for Badosa, who is looking to make up for lost time, while also planning ahead for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>When speaking about her goals for the rest of the season, Badosa explained that she is hoping to play as many matches as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, the expectations won\u2019t change for the end of the season,\u201d said Badosa. \u201cI\u2019m going to play the last tournaments of the year. I haven\u2019t played much this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I want, I think my big goal is to start already looking 2026. I want to finish the best way possible this year. I hope I can play as many matches as possible also, try to get as fit as possible in the pre-season.
