The system is located at JSC in Germany, which operates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fz-juelich.de\/en\/jupiter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">JUPITER<\/a>, a supercomputer described as Europe\u2019s fastest. This deployment represents a step in integrating quantum computing capabilities into real-world high-performance computing (HPC) environments.<\/p>\n<p>The NVIDIA DGX Quantum system combines an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/data-center\/grace-hopper-superchip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">NVIDIA Grace Hopper Superchip<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quantum-machines.co\/products\/opx1000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Quantum Machines\u2019 OPX1000<\/a> hybrid quantum-classical controller. The integration enables round-trip data transfer with a latency under 4 microseconds, a reported 1000-fold improvement over previous implementations. The system features Arque Systems\u2019 5-qubit quantum processor, which uses electron shuttling to couple qubits\u2014an approach intended to enable architectures suitable for quantum error correction (QEC).<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration\u2019s goals include accelerating qubit calibration routines, benchmarking QEC performance, and exploring hybrid quantum-classical algorithm development within an HPC environment. This architecture is designed to run neural networks and machine learning models directly on classical accelerators, such as GPUs, while maintaining low-latency communication with the quantum controller. This capability enables techniques like adaptive calibration and decoder optimization to be executed in real time, which is intended to speed up workflows.<\/p>\n<p>The JUPITER supercomputer, a key component of this initiative, is funded jointly by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurohpc-ju.europa.eu\/index_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU)<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmftr.bund.de\/EN\/Home\/home_node.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR)<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mkw.nrw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MKW NRW)<\/a> via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gauss-centre.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Gauss Centre for Supercomputing<\/a>\u00a0(GCS). The inauguration ceremony was attended by German Chancellor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Friedrich_Merz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Friedrich Merz<\/a>, highlighting the national and European strategic importance of the project.
