\n\tNearly five years after Netflix entered into a content agreement with Ubisoft<\/a>, the streamer has ordered an Assassin\u2019s Creed live-action series, based on the best-selling video game franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project will be created, showrun, and executive produced by Roberto Patino<\/a> (DMZ, Westworld) and David Wiener<\/a> (Halo, Homecoming). Executive producers also include Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill for Ubisoft<\/a> Film & Television, and Matt O\u2019Toole.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAssassin\u2019s Creed, the series, is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions \u2014 one set on determining mankind\u2019s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity\u2019s destiny.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve been fans of Assassin\u2019s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin\u2019s Creed opens to us,\u201d Wiener and Patino shared in a joint statement. \u201cBeneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story \u2014 about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs part of Netflix and Ubisoft\u2019s deal, plans were in place to create an Assassin\u2019s Creed universe, including live-action, animated, and anime TV projects. A live-action series was always set as the streamer\u2019s first project, with Die Hard\u00a0scribe Jeb Stuart originally attached to write in 2021.<\/p>\n

\n\tSince the Assassin\u2019s Creed franchise launched in 2007, Ubisoft has sold over 230 million games worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling series in video game history. It was adapted as a feature in the 2016\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed,\u00a0directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender. In 2017, Ubisoft originally signaled its plans for an\u00a0Assassin\u2019s Creed\u00a0TV series.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new series joins Netflix\u2019s other video game adaptations, including Castlevania, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the upcoming Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
