{"id":168272,"date":"2025-09-19T19:58:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T19:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/168272\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T19:58:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T19:58:08","slug":"seg-salt-lake-county-announce-master-architects-for-slcs-entertainment-district","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/168272\/","title":{"rendered":"SEG, Salt Lake County announce master architects for SLC&#8217;s entertainment district"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SALT LAKE CITY \u2014 Salt Lake County and Smith Entertainment Group announced early Friday the chosen partners in the next phase for the <a href=\"https:\/\/ksltv.com\/entertainment\/salt-lake-county-wants-to-rebuild-salt-palace-at-a-1-billion-price-tag\/704323\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">renovation<\/a> of the Salt Palace Convention Center and the entire Sports, Entertainment, Culture and Convention district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThese selections represent some of the best talent in the industry, with a unique and necessary blending of local and national expertise,\u201d Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson said, in a press release Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The vision for the new district is to transform the heart of downtown, providing walkability from the Delta Center all the way to City Creek. On Friday, the county confirmed to KSL TV that the back half of the Salt Palace Convention Center, which is now owned by Salt Lake County, will be demolished.<\/p>\n<p>The area in question is the county-owned land between South Temple to 100 South and 200 West to 300 West, where the district will meet the Delta Center.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the release, the county selected global design practice, <a href=\"https:\/\/populous.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Populous<\/a> Holdings, Inc. and Utah\u2019s oldest architecture firm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhtn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MHTN Architects, <\/a>to lead the renovation\u2019s architectural efforts, while Utah-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/cccutah.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Construction Control Corporation<\/a> and Sacramento consultancy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rlb.com\/americas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rider Levett Bucknall, or RLB<\/a> were chosen to oversee construction.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the county\u2019s selection, SEG announced the architecture and design firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hksinc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HKS<\/a> will lead the master design plan for the entire district. The company told KSL TV on Friday that HKS has 29 offices in nine countries and has been involved in the design of many sports and entertainment districts, including:<\/p>\n<p>AT&amp;T Stadium and Arlington Experience District, home of NFL\u2019s Dallas Cowboys<br \/>\nVictory Plaza in Dallas, at the American Airlines Center, home of NBA\u2019s Dallas Mavericks and NHL\u2019s Dallas Stars<br \/>\nHuntington Bank Stadium Masterplan for NFL\u2019s Cleveland Browns<br \/>\nSoFi Stadium, home of NFL\u2019s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers<\/p>\n<p>Salt Lake County\u2019s Facilities Management Associate Division Director Ryan Henrie\u00a0 said the goal is pretty ambitious: to connect City Creek, Abravanel Hall, the Salt Palace, Japan Town and the Delta Center, to \u201callow more walkable areas between the venues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now there\u2019s a lot of stops and starts so people have a hard time connecting to those spaces, this will really open that up I think,\u201d he said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Demolition of the area is expected to begin in February 2027, the county said.<\/p>\n<p>As of Friday, the total cost estimated for the new district project was set at $1.4 billion, which leaves $500 million unaccounted for, after <a href=\"https:\/\/ksltv.com\/?p=688549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">SEG secured $900 million<\/a> of that from a resolution with Salt Lake City.<\/p>\n<p>The designs for the project are not due to be released until mid-to-late 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-821543\" class=\"size-full wp-image-821543\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/SECC-Project-Area_SMALL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1413\" height=\"897\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-821543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A rendering shows a map of proposed plans for Salt Lake City\u2019s entertainment district, released in 2024.
