The economic uncertainties with the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/beauty-industry-news\/beauty-features\/beauty-maanda-faces-further-uncertainty-amid-tariffs-1237082132\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1237082132\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ever-changing tariffs <\/a>put in place, rapid accelerations in <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" id=\"auto-tag_artificial-intelligence\" data-tag=\"artificial-intelligence\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a>, cautious <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/consumer-spending\/\" id=\"auto-tag_consumer-spending\" data-tag=\"consumer-spending\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">consumer spending<\/a> and changes within Apple iOS 18 have caused many brands to pivot rapidly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/technology\/beauty-fashion-sms-loyalty-conversions-report-1237049655\/\">Listrak<\/a> recently released three reports \u2014 \u201cH2 2025 Beauty Retail Outlook,\u201d \u201cH2 2025 Fashion Retail Outlook,\u201d and \u201cH2 2025 Retail Outlook\u201d \u2014 to give brands insights into what worked and what didn\u2019t in the first half of the year and what\u2019s to come in the second six months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFashion is expected to grow between 3 percent and 5 percent, with non-luxury brands fueling this rise. Similarly, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/e-commerce\/\" id=\"auto-tag_e-commerce\" data-tag=\"e-commerce\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">e-commerce<\/a> is driving beauty growth \u2014 a third of beauty sales are set to be online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOverall, Listrak\u2019s data showed that SMS has continued to surge. With RCS (Rich Communication Services) emerging with new possibilities, revenue for SMS increased by 30 percent. Meanwhile, email engagement has greatly declined as consumers are experiencing fatigue and as a result of Apple Mail changes. Brands are seeing a 29 percent decline in both click-through rate and revenue. But a bright spot is that conversion rates rose 7 percent year-over-year, as consumers with intent remained engaged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNotably, the biggest impacts to brands for the first half of the year were consumers spending less and being sales-reliant (42 percent), <a data-id=\"1237707529\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/footwear-news\/shoe-industry-news\/tariffs-strategies-footwear-firms-china-vietnam-1237707529\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">supply chain shake-ups<\/a> (26 percent), tariff volatility (22 percent) and Apple Mail changes (11 percent). \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe major takeaways from the first half included consumers being conscious and stretching their dollar, experiences and loyalty programs evolving to focus on personalization and engagement and digital-first brands doubling down on physical retail experiences and diversifying their offerings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrands told Listrak that their overarching plan for the second half includes increasing prices (25 percent), mounting discounts (23 percent), <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/footwear-news\/shoe-industry-news\/designer-brands-ceo-doug-howe-pricing-tariff-impact-1237911940\/\">diversifying supply chains <\/a>(20 percent), <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/business-features\/intuit-ideas-small-business-program-2025-1237978843\/\" id=\"related_article_link_artificial-intelligence\" data-tag=\"artificial-intelligence\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> capabilities (20 percent), RCS (7 percent) and pre-loved\/used space adoption (5 percent).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAccording to the reports\u2019 authors, the three trends that will define the second half are price pressure and value-driven behavior, inventory volatility and operational agility and the emergence of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/technology\/daydream-ai-fashion-search-engine-online-shopping-1237943248\/\">AI-powered shopping<\/a> assistants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe market is signaling price pressure and value-driven behavior with dupes trending, private labels in Target and Costco scaling with lower prices, and pre-loved and rental brands such as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/business-features\/uber-nuuly-partnership-student-clothing-rentals-1237024699\/\">Nuuly<\/a> and Rent the Runway gaining momentum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMoreover, the closing of the Shein and Temu loopholes in terms of their importation into the U.S. has also boosted affordable competitors. Thirty-seven percent of shoppers said they plan to cut any <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/business-features\/gen-z-millennials-redefine-necessities-economic-uncertainty-1237490557\/\">non-essential spending<\/a> going into the summer and holiday seasons. For fashion and beauty, capturing value will be of the utmost importance for consumers. Brands need to appeal to the aspirational yet price-conscious customer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWith retailers looking beyond China to diversify their supply chains, inventory is harder than ever to predict. Imports from China \u2014 as a result of President Trump\u2019s tariffs \u2014 have dropped 65 percent year-over-year and order cancellations are up 60 percent as compared to 2020. Supply chain diversification and slow restocks are creating urgency and unpredictability. But according to Listrak\u2019s data, low inventory SMS alerts drove 42 percent year-over-year revenue \u2014 proving that <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/pop-culture\/culture-news\/how-to-buy-a-birkin-bag-1236769799\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">scarcity does indeed sell<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAI has continued to be on everyone\u2019s mind \u2014 53 percent of consumers said they plan to use AI to support their purchase decisions for 2025. Listrak said the industry will see a shift from traditional search engines to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sourcingjournal.com\/topics\/technology\/openai-chatgpt-shopping-retail-artificial-intelligence-1234745905\/\">ChatGPT usage<\/a> rising during the holiday season. Many retailers will start to adapt quickly by investing in AI tools on their <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/business-features\/amazon-prime-day-2025-discount-strategy-changes-1237978409\/\" id=\"related_article_link_e-commerce\" data-tag=\"e-commerce\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">e-commerce<\/a> platforms to aid product discovery, enhance their personalization and streamline the path to purchase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile previously ChatGPT told WWD\u2019s sister publication Sourcing Journal this April that it had no plans to monetize its product recommendations, the AI company has<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sourcingjournal.com\/topics\/technology\/openai-chatgpt-shopping-shopify-monetization-checkout-conversational-commerce-1234755983\/\"> changed its mind<\/a>. More than 50 percent of fashion executives surveyed by Listrak said they see generative AI as a key driver of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/technology\/ai-retail-shopping-transformation-discovery-always-on-1237051853\/\">product discovery <\/a>for this year and 43 percent of retailers are already utilizing chatbots on their site to address customer service and lower friction. Overall, there\u2019s been a 155 percent increase year-over-year in traffic from AI tools to e-commerce websites.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe first half of 2025 reminded us that retail success is not about predicting the future \u2014 it\u2019s about being prepared for the future,\u201d said Jamie Elden, chief revenue officer of Listrak. \u201cWhile change is constant, with the right insights and tactics, retailers can convert change into advantage.
