While Hilaria Baldwin<\/a> is no stranger to the world of dance, competing on Dancing With the Stars<\/a> has proven to be a completely different ballgame.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, some of it is like visiting a familiar friend when you\u2019re older, and you\u2019ve had a lot of children, and broken some bones, if you can relate to that,\u201d Baldwin told People<\/a> in an interview published on Sunday, September 21. \u201cBut also, some of it is brand new. [My partner], Gleb Savchenko<\/a>, is asking me to dance on a much higher level than I ever danced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin noted that she\u2019s putting her focus into \u201cthe quality, the footwork, [and] the authenticity of the dance,\u201d as well as \u201cbeing independent on my own, so I\u2019m not just relying on him to throw me around the dance floor. He makes me do the routine on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n

Learning old and new tricks can come with some awkward moments. \u201cIt\u2019s uncomfortable and embarrassing sometimes,\u201d Baldwin shared. \u201cI keep on reminding myself: I didn\u2019t sign up for this to be comfortable. I signed up for this to do hard things and to be brave. And [Gleb] is the perfect person to do that with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin made her debut in the DWTS ballroom during the Season 34 premiere<\/a> on Tuesday, September 16. She and Savchenko earned the second-highest score of the night for their cha-cha-cha to \u201cLet\u2019s Get Loud\u201d by Jennifer Lopez<\/a>, earning sevens from judges Derek Hough<\/a> and Bruno Tonioli<\/a>. With a total score of 14\/20, Baldwin and Savchenko fell behind pairs Whitney Leavitt<\/a> and Mark Ballas<\/a> and Robert Irwin<\/a> and Witney Carson<\/a>, who earned a total score of 15\/20.<\/p>\n

For Week 2\u2019s \u201cOne Hit Wonders Night,\u201d Baldwin and Savchenko will perform a tango to the Haddaway hit \u201cWhat Is Love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have any experience with the standard dances, so I\u2019m nervous but also excited,\u201d Baldwin told the outlet about exploring different genres of ballroom dance. \u201cBecause I think when you try something that\u2019s brand new, it\u2019s a little liberating because you\u2019re like, \u2018All right, I\u2019m going to try this.\u2019 And it\u2019s just that different expectation.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cAs [Gleb] says, I\u2019m very hard on myself. And so, I\u2019m trying to learn to chill out a little bit. And I think I\u2019ve done a better job at relaxing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin\u2019s hard work on DWTS so far has earned her high praise from her pro partner. \u201cHilaria\u2019s such a hard worker, and I\u2019m just so impressed with the passion that she puts into it,\u201d Savchenko gushed. \u201cShe\u2019s such a perfectionist. You\u2019re working on little details, and she goes, like, \u2018No, let\u2019s do it again. Let\u2019s do it again.\u2019 She gets so frustrated with herself. And I\u2019m like, \u2018It\u2019s okay. It was actually good.\u2019 [And she goes], \u2018No, let\u2019s do it again.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Savchenko noted that Baldwin\u2019s dedication proves she has the \u201cspirit of a true champion,\u201d adding, \u201cI really appreciate that. It\u2019s really inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n
