{"id":175918,"date":"2025-09-23T09:03:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T09:03:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/175918\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T09:03:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T09:03:14","slug":"lindsay-davenport-gives-her-immediate-reaction-after-the-usa-are-beaten-by-italy-in-billie-jean-king-cup-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/175918\/","title":{"rendered":"Lindsay Davenport gives her immediate reaction after the USA are beaten by Italy in Billie Jean King Cup final"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Italy secured their second consecutive Billie Jean King Cup title after beating the USA 2-0 in the finals. <\/p>\n<p>Elisabetta Cocciaretto overcame <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/emma-navarro\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emma Navarro<\/a> in straight sets to give her country the lead earlier in the day before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jasmine-paolini\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jasmine Paolini<\/a> sealed the victory with her triumph over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jessica-pegula\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jessica Pegula<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Americans were competing in their first final in seven years after coming through their tie with Great Britain. <\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t to be for captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/Lindsay-Davenport\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lindsay Davenport<\/a>\u2018s side in the end, however, who said it was a successful week for the USA overall. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"661\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2236573054-1024x661.jpg\" alt=\"Italy v USA - Billie Jean King Cup By Gainbridge Finals 2025\" \/>Photo by Lintao Zhang\/Getty Images for Billie Jean King CupLindsay Davenport reacts to USA\u2019s loss in the Billie Jean King Cup final<\/p>\n<p>In her post-tie press conference, Davenport said: \u201cI mean, every team is so tough here. I mean, we were match points down in our first match against Kazakhstan. If Emma doesn\u2019t beat Putintseva, who knows what happens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut happy that we made a great run here. We felt like we had a great opportunity today. But, man, both of those ladies played great tennis. Congratulations to them.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll just keep trying. We\u2019ll get another chance, hopefully next year, to be back here in Shenzhen. We\u2019ll hopefully learn from today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, these players go on to play great in the rest of the year. I look forward to watching the year play out for all the Americans. It\u2019s been a great week. In this individual sport, you don\u2019t get many opportunities. This year we had two weeks to be able to do it in terms of this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a great atmosphere trying to just create the ladies to work together. It didn\u2019t go our way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that everyone here who was here for Team USA was really focused on the goal. Sometimes you fall short. Sometimes the other team just plays better. Both those ladies played great today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe there was a couple more things we could have done out there, but we all tried our best, everyone on the support staff. What can you do?
