\n\tEXCLUSIVE: Channel 4<\/a>\u2018s next chief executive will lead the UK network into the \u201cmost important phase\u201d in its 42-year history.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat\u2019s according to a leaked copy of the briefing document sent to candidates by headhunters Spencer Stuart, as Channel 4 ramps up efforts to replace Alex Mahon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 19-page job spec, published in full below, provides an overview of Channel 4\u2019s creative and financial health, while emphasizing its ambition to become a \u201cdigital-first public service streamer\u201d by 2030. <\/p>\n

\n\tOn a page titled \u2018Role and desired outcomes,\u2019 the Spencer Stuart job spec defines what success will look like across three areas in the first 12-18 months of next Channel 4 CEO\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe first involves \u201creimagining the business model\u201d by addressing declines in advertising revenue. This includes partnerships, platform innovation, and \u201cbold\u201d ideas.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe second expectation outlined by Channel 4\u2019s board is \u201creconnecting with viewers through creative impact.\u201d It implores the next CEO to take content performance to the \u201cnext level\u201d and ensure Channel 4 remains \u201cculturally relevant\u201d to younger audiences.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe third priority in the job spec is \u201cleading with purpose and collaboration,\u201d which calls for \u201cclarity of vision\u201d and an understanding of Channel 4\u2019s remit as a government-owned, but commercially self-sustaining company.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe document also reflects on Channel 4\u2019s \u201cFast Forward\u201d strategy, doubling down on pledges to close linear channels and move out of the company\u2019s Horseferry Road headquarters.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt references \u201cstreamlining Channel 4\u2019s operational costs,\u201d hinting a further structural changes after the broadcaster made 250 redundancies last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe CEO role has not yet been formally advertised by Channel 4, but work has been underway for weeks to draw up a long list of contenders for Geoff Cooper<\/a>, the incoming chair, to whittle down. Cooper does not officially get to work until next month, but Deadline hears he has already met with interim CEO Jonathan Allan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAllan made clear at the Royal Television Society Cambridge that he intends to throw his hat in the ring. Others linked to the role include All3Media CEO Jane Turton, ITV Studios managing director Julian Bellamy, and YouTube UK chief Alison Lomax.
