One injured after being hit by car in Omaha\u2019s Midtown area<\/p>\n

One person is in the hospital after they were hit by a car<\/a> in Omaha\u2019s Midtown area late Monday.<\/p>\n

OPD officers were called to the incident near 40th and Cuming streets just after 10:30 p.m. Monday. <\/p>\n

Police dispatch confirmed the status of the crash victim wit<\/p>\n

Nonprofit sues Neb. Secretary of State over DOJ demand for voter data<\/p>\n

First Alert 6 has new details on a request from the Department of Justice asking for Nebraskans\u2019 voter registration data<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Monday was the deadline set by the federal government for Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen to hand over the data. The nonprofit Common Cause Nebraska is now filing a lawsuit<\/a> to block the request.<\/p>\n

On Sept 8., the DOJ sent a letter to Evnen\u2019s office requesting personal information on voters such as addresses, drivers license numbers and the last four digits of social security numbers. <\/p>\n

Voting rights advocates say while some of that information is easily accessible, some is not, and Nebraskans\u2019 privacy could be at risk. The DOJ has said it wants the info to help keep a more accurate voter registration list and weed out any voter fraud.<\/p>\n

Common Cause<\/a>, a nonprofit which advocates for \u201cgood government,\u201d says elections should be handled by the states and their secretary of state offices, and that it\u2019s not the DOJ\u2019s place to ask for this information.<\/p>\n

City Council to discuss homeless encampments in Omaha Tuesday<\/p>\n

In its weekly meeting Tuesday<\/a>, Omaha\u2019s City Council will hear proposals over homeless encampments<\/a> and medical marijuana.<\/p>\n

One proposed ordinance would create rules for unauthorized encampments on public property. Those that do not comply would face penalties.<\/a><\/p>\n

Mayor John Ewing Jr. doesn\u2019t like the proposal. Monday afternoon, he spoke about developing a program that addresses homelessness<\/a> and asked city council for more time to study the issue.<\/p>\n

In the past week, First Alert 6 has investigated homeless camps near Mason and 16th streets<\/a> under a South Omaha bridge, along 13th Street<\/a> just north of Interstate 80, and near 28th and Pinkney<\/a> in North Omaha.<\/p>\n

Another proposal mandates that any place distributing medical marijuana<\/a> must follow the rules put in place by the state. The Omaha City Council meets at 2 p.m. most Tuesdays with meetings livestreamed on the city\u2019s website.<\/a><\/p>\n

Nebraska senate race heats up with Pete Ricketts, Dan Osborn<\/p>\n

Although we are more than a year out from the 2026 Midterms, the campaign season for the Nebraska senate seat is not slowing down.<\/a><\/p>\n

Independent Dan Osborn<\/a> held an event in Lincoln Monday after launching his campaign nearly three months ago. In last year\u2019s election, he ran against Sen. Deb Fischer<\/a>, narrowly losing by nearly 63,000 votes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to take money from anybody,\u201d Osborn said Monday. \u201cI\u2019m gonna do your bidding, the way it was intended: a government by and for the people. Right now? It\u2019s government for the one percent and the corporations, and I think we\u2019re fed up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Osborn\u2019s event comes one day after his opponent next November, Senator Pete Ricketts, kicked off his re-election campaign<\/a> Sunday. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re gonna be out talking about what we\u2019re doing in Washington D.C. to be able to make people\u2019s lives more affordable,\u201d Ricketts said. \u201cTo be able to make communities more safe, provide more housing. All the things that are going to impact people\u2019s lives…\u201d<\/p>\n

Ricketts was appointed in 2023<\/a> by Governor Jim Pillen after Ben Sasse left the position. He was elected to the seat last November.<\/p>\n

Mobile diabetes center visiting Open Door Mission in Omaha Tuesday<\/p>\n

Nebraska Methodist will bring its mobile diabetes center<\/a> to the Open Door Mission on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Nursing students will be providing free blood glucose and blood pressure checks.<\/p>\n

Also Tuesday, you can support the Huskers in the Big Ten\u2019s We Give Blood drive. The University of Nebraska – Lincoln is currently trailing Wisconsin.<\/a><\/p>\n

To have your donation count, you can log it on the Big Ten\u2019s donation page<\/a>. Lincoln has three locations that are participating in the drive, and Omaha has five.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve given blood since August 27, you can still put your name toward the race. You can donate until December 5.<\/p>\n

Ribbon cutting to be held Tuesday for new Council Bluffs mural<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, First Alert 6 will get a look at the largest mural ever created in Council Bluffs, Iowa.<\/p>\n

The mural, called the Tracks of Time<\/a>, stretches 560 feet along the First Avenue Trail at Katelman Steel. More than 20 artists came together to work on the mural, each creating a mini mural on a train car. <\/p>\n

A ribbon cutting event will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at 2032 2nd Ave.<\/p>\n
