Jimmy Kimmel will go back on air after his late-night show was pulled last week, Disney-owned broadcaster ABC announced on Monday.<\/p>\n
Kimmel\u2019s show is set to return<\/a> on Tuesday night, after a weeklong impasse during which ABC faced backlash over its decision to cancel it, and close to $5bn was wiped from Disney\u2019s stock market value.<\/p>\n Why has Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s show been reinstated?<\/p>\n The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, said in a statement on Monday that Kimmel\u2019s show had been indefinitely pulled off the air on September 17 to avoid escalating tensions during an \u201cemotional moment for our country\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.\u201d<\/p>\n The statement added further: \u201cWe have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n Experts say Disney\u2019s decision to bring Kimmel\u2019s show back on air was probably motivated by business interests, since many consumers were ending their subscriptions to Disney\u2019s streaming services.<\/p>\n \u201cConsumers were exercising their own First Amendment rights and ending their subscriptions to the company\u2019s streaming services,\u201d Susan Campbell, a media studies professor at the University of New Haven in Connecticut, told the Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n When will Jimmy Kimmel come back on air?<\/p>\n Kimmel\u2019s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, is set to return on Tuesday night at its usual 11:35pm ET (Wednesday, 03:35 GMT) slot. It can be viewed on abc.com or streamed on Hulu.<\/p>\n Sinclair, a major owner of local TV stations that operates more than 30 local ABC affiliates, said those, however, would replace Kimmel\u2019s show with news programming instead.<\/p>\n Why was Kimmel\u2019s show cancelled in the first place?<\/p>\n On September 10, conservative influencer Charlie Kirk<\/a> was fatally shot in front of 3,000 people while he was speaking at a Utah university event. Right-wing figures claimed Robinson was \u201cleft-wing\u201d.<\/p>\n In response to this, Kimmel criticised US President Donald Trump<\/a> and his MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters\u2019 reactions to Kirk\u2019s death.<\/p>\n Kimmel said<\/a> on his show: \u201cThe MAGA gang (is) desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n Kimmel added that Trump\u2019s reaction to Kirk\u2019s death was not \u201chow an adult grieves the murder of someone he calls a friend.
