\n\tIn a recent appearance on the \u201cNew Heights<\/a>\u201d podcast, Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a> said an agent told him in his early teens that his name was \u201ctoo ethnic,\u201d and suggested he go by the stage name Lenny Williams instead.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI finally got an agent. They said, \u2018Your name is too ethnic,\u2019\u201d DiCaprio recalled. \u201cI go, \u2018What do you mean? It\u2019s Leonardo DiCaprio?\u2019 They go, \u2018No, too ethnic. They\u2019re never going to hire you. Your new name is Lenny Williams.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe continued, \u201cI said, \u2018What is Lenny?\u2019 I was 12,13. I said, \u2018What is Lenny Williams?\u2019 \u2018We took your middle name and we made it. Now you\u2019re Lenny.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe \u201cWolf of Wall Street\u201d star added that when he showed his father his headshot printed with the new name, he \u201cripped it up, and he said, \u2018Over my dead body.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBenicio Del Toro<\/a>, who appeared in the interview alongside DiCaprio, also had an agent push him to change his name. He shared, \u201cI was told the same thing. \u2018You\u2019re Benny Del.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDiCaprio and Del Toro co-star in Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a>\u2018s upcoming thriller \u201cOne Battle After Another<\/a>,\u201d which hits theaters Sept. 26. The film stars DiCaprio as Bob, a burnt-out revolutionary who must team up with his former conspirators to rescue his daughter from an old foe.<\/p>\n
