\n\tOur long national late night-mare has ended, and Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live! is back on the airwaves<\/a> \u2014 well, in most of the country. Can we all get back to normal now, please? On Wednesday, one week after his show was first suspended<\/a>, Jimmy Kimmel did, more or less.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his second show back<\/a>, Kimmel got a rousing ovation and a \u201cJimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy!\u201d chant a la The Jerry Springer Show. Kimmel opened with a few preemption jokes<\/a> and another about fellow ABC<\/a> program The Golden Bachelor. And then he settled right back in to his old schtick: mocking President Trump.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel is especially adept at that, not that it\u2019s an especially tough task when Trump is active on social media, as he has been since Kimmel\u2019s suspension and reinstatement.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI can\u2019t believe ABC Fake News gave\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel\u00a0his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his \u2018talent\u2019 was never there,\u201d Trump posted to his Truth Social platform. \u201cWhy would they want someone back who does so poorly, who\u2019s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE. He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we\u2019re going to test ABC out on this. Let\u2019s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOnly Donald Trump<\/a> would try to prove that he\u2019s not threatening ABC by threatening ABC,\u201d Kimmel quipped.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA true bunch of losers!\u201d Trump\u2019s post concluded. \u201cLet Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWell, Kimmel certainly did not have bad ratings in his Tuesday return. Even with nearly a quarter of the country blacked out due to affiliate preemptions \u2014 protests and temper tantrums by station groups and owners, basically \u2014 Jimmy Kimmel Live! had its largest-ever audience<\/a> for a regular episode in the show\u2019s 22-year history.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe does know bad ratings,\u201d Kimmel acknowledged of Trump, accompanied by a chyron of the president\u2019s poor approval ratings.<\/p>\n

\n\tLater in the Wednesday monologue, before Ethan Hawke so rudely interrupted things, Kimmel helped Fox News Channel\u2019s Jesse Watters investigate escalator-gate, our latest controversy in which somebody appears to have stopped a working escalator inside of the UN building just as first lady Melania Trump and the POTUS board the moving stairway. Fortunately, tragedy \u2014 in this case, maybe a stubbed toe or awkward-looking step \u2014 was averted.<\/p>\n

\n\tOK, so maybe our long national nightmare is just getting started.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel was benched a week ago<\/a> after a monologue joke made reference to MAGA Republicans scrambling to distance their politics from the ideologies of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk\u2019s alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson. The remarks were interpreted by many on the right as an incorrect classification of Robinson\u2019s beliefs and a direct or indirect placement of blame for Kirk\u2019s murder on extreme-right politics. Sponsors and some station owners retaliated after Trump and his FCC chair Brendan Carr<\/a> made their feelings about the matter known, and Disney\/ABC shut the late-night show down \u2014 temporarily, it turns out \u2014 amid the mounting pressure.<\/p>\n
