The Voss Gallery<\/a> in the Mission District, a contemporary art gallery that has sat a block from the 24th Street BART station for six years, officially closed its storefront on Aug. 31\u00a0 after owner Ashley Voss decided against renewing her lease.<\/p>\n

\u201cEconomics, I think, plays a part in everyone\u2019s story, especially now,\u201d said Voss, of her decision. \u201cBut it was more of the lease coming to an end and that made me want to pause and rethink how I\u2019m allocating my resources rather than committing to another long-term lease.\u201d<\/p>\n

Voss Gallery, at 3344 24th St., remains fully operational online, where 70 percent of its sales take place. The Voss Collectors Club<\/a>, which takes members to art fairs, art studios and mural walks, will also continue to meet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another factor contributing to Voss\u2019 decision is her commitment to SF Art Guide<\/a>, an art calendar that she started two years ago to connect art lovers<\/a> to events throughout the city. (Mission Local links to the guide in its museum listings<\/a>). Voss is currently exploring setting up a nonprofit for this kind of work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Closing the physical gallery will also free up funds and time for other projects, she said. \u201cSometimes we get so caught up in the groove that we don\u2019t have time for reflection,\u201d said Voss, who has solely managed and owned the gallery since its opening in 2019. \u201cI\u2019m curious to see how else I can better support artists without being tied to a physical location, without having to manage, operate and run the gallery space.\u201d<\/p>\n

During her six years at the corner space on 24th Street, she\u2019s shown artists like Khari Turner<\/a>, whose 12 paintings sold out<\/a> in six hours; \u201clocal powerhouse\u201d The Tracy Piper<\/a>; and local muralist Jordan Herren<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Voss said moving forward she will continue to represent artists \u201cnomadically.\u201d She\u2019s also looking forward to more collaborations at places like the Ferry Building, where Herren has a mural. She also expects to do pop-ups with local businesses and real estate companies.<\/p>\n

Voss said she also plans to have a presence at SF Art Week in January and other art fairs that come to the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpect some fun things,\u201d said Voss. \u201cWe\u2019re not done yet.
