{"id":187174,"date":"2025-09-28T08:39:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T08:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/187174\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T08:39:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T08:39:09","slug":"china-is-nanoseconds-behind-us-in-chips-says-nvidias-jensen-huang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/187174\/","title":{"rendered":"China is \u2018nanoseconds behind\u2019 US in chips, says Nvidia\u2019s Jensen Huang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Allowing US companies like <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/nvidia?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nvidia<\/a> to compete in China fits the interests of both Beijing and Washington, according to Jensen Huang, the US chipmaker\u2019s founder and CEO, as Chinese players gear up to be Nvidia-free.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Washington should allow its technology industry to compete globally \u2013 including in China \u2013 to \u201cproliferate the technology around the world\u201d and thereby \u201cmaximise America\u2019s economic success and geopolitical influence\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">China is \u201cnanoseconds behind\u201d the US, \u201cso we\u2019ve got to go compete\u201d, Huang said, highlighting China\u2019s progress in chipmaking and its manufacturing potential. He pointed to the country\u2019s deep pool of talent, hustling work culture and internal competition across its provinces.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThis is a vibrant, entrepreneurial, hi-tech, modern industry,\u201d he said on BG2, a podcast hosted by tech investors Brad Gerstner and Bill Gurley.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Huang added that he hoped and believed China would remain open to outside investment, noting that Beijing has pledged to maintain \u201can open market\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWhat\u2019s in the best interest of China is for foreign companies to invest in China, compete in China and for them to also have vibrant competition themselves,\u201d he said on an episode released on Friday. \u201cThey would also like to come out of China and participate around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia\u2019s graphics processing units (GPUs) are regarded as the backbone of training and running <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/artificial-intelligence?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">artificial intelligence<\/a> models, which has helped push the company\u2019s market capitalisation to record highs. But sales to China, one of the world\u2019s biggest markets, have been disrupted by geopolitical tensions.
