The famous cryptid will appear as &#8220;Hairy Creature&#8221; alongside a selection of other fun new emoji options in Unicode 17.0.<\/p>\n<p>It might seem strange that a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:2;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/home.unicode.org\/membership\/members\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:consortium of companies;cpos:2;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">consortium of companies<\/a> as powerful as Apple, Google and Microsoft would practically subtweet one of North America&#8217;s most famous semi-mythological creatures. But the global nature of Unicode makes avoiding region-specific nomenclature preferable whenever possible. To me, that&#8217;s Bigfoot, plain and simple, but elsewhere in the world it might scan as a <a data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yowie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:yowie;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">yowie<\/a>, yeti, nuk-luk, hibagon, orang pendekor or an almas.<\/p>\n<p>Besides &#8220;Hairy Creature,&#8221; here&#8217;s some of the other new emoji getting added with Unicode 17.0:<\/p>\n<p>Trombone<\/p>\n<p>Treasure Chest<\/p>\n<p>Distorted Face<\/p>\n<p>Fight Cloud<\/p>\n<p>Apple Core<\/p>\n<p>Orca<\/p>\n<p>Ballet Dancers<\/p>\n<p>Unicode 17.0 is <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.unicode.org\/versions\/beta-17.0.0.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:slated to be released;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">slated to be released<\/a> on September 9, 2025, but these new emoji likely won&#8217;t be added to Android and iOS until a bit after the standard is updated.
