{"id":188562,"date":"2025-09-28T23:12:20","date_gmt":"2025-09-28T23:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/188562\/"},"modified":"2025-09-28T23:12:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T23:12:20","slug":"gator-fans-cant-stop-laughing-at-georgia-basketballs-big-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/188562\/","title":{"rendered":"Gator fans can\u2019t stop laughing at Georgia Basketball\u2019s big move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5r\">With basketball season around the corner and happier times ahead for Florida Gator fans, the Georgia Bulldogs made a move that was supposed to be a happy announcement for their own basketball program.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5u\">But in making the announcement, it actually served as a pick-me-up for Gators fans feeling down about football season.<\/p>\n<p>Mike White gets extended by Georgia<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"60\">Georgia announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/college\/georgia\/article\/georgia-extends-mens-basketball-coach-mike-white-254583210\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they have extended<\/a> Mike White through the 2031 season.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"63\">You know what, no complaints here from Florida. None whatsoever. In fact, the only bummer for Florida fans is that he wasn&#8217;t extended even longer.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"66\">White was Florida&#8217;s head coach from 2015 through 2022. He had a record of 142-88 and 72-52 in SEC play, which wasn&#8217;t a disaster, but it was clear there was a ceiling on the program. After an Elite Eight run in 2017, White never advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament again. In fact, 2016-17 was his only season in Gainesville with fewer than ten losses.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"69\">Fans grew frustrated because White was a symbol of mediocrity, but if those same fans dared to say something, they were told, &#8220;Oh, you&#8217;re just being negative.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6c\">White left for Georgia after the 2022 season, and one could say his replacement, Todd Golden, has <a href=\"https:\/\/hailfloridahail.com\/billy-donovan-just-gave-florida-s-championship-team-its-flowers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">done alright.<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6f\">Georgia, meanwhile, gave White an extension after seasons of 16-16, 20-17, and 20-13.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6i\">The Bulldogs became ranked this past season for the first time since 2011, and in true Mike White fashion, he went out and promptly became unranked the following week.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6l\">Georgia also made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015, and again in true Mike White fashion, he was bounced in the first round after a 89-68 defeat to Gonzaga that wasn&#8217;t even that close.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6o\">If this is what Georgia wants for basketball, do you Bulldogs, do you.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6r\">Thanks for letting Florida go out and get Golden and giving Gator fans at least something to look forward to this winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"With basketball season around the corner and happier times ahead for Florida Gator fans, the Georgia Bulldogs made&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":188563,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[68],"tags":[402,398,400,401,99],"class_list":["post-188562","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ncaa-basketball","tag-basketball","tag-ncaa","tag-ncaa-basketball","tag-ncaabasketball","tag-sports"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/188562","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=188562"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/188562\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/188563"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=188562"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=188562"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=188562"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
