\n\tThe Simpsons<\/a> are getting off the couch and heading back to theaters in 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tDisney<\/a> announced Monday that an untitled The Simpsons movie is set for theatrical release on July 23, 2027. The Simpsons Movie, a previous feature version of the long-running Matt Groening<\/a>-created Fox<\/a> animated series, hit theaters in 2007.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot details for the new film have not yet been shared. 20th Century Studios confirmed the news on Instagram<\/a> with an image of Homer Simpson snagging a pink donut covered with sprinkles in the shape of the numeral \u201c2.\u201d The caption reads, \u201cHomer\u2019s coming back for seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe second Simpsons movie takes the release date that Disney had previously held for an untitled Marvel film. Warner Bros.\u2019 animated musical feature Bad Fairies<\/a> is also scheduled to hit theaters July 23, 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tFox series The Simpsons premiered in December 1989 and launched its 37th season Sunday. Groening developed the program with James L. Brooks and Sam Simon after the Simpsons family appeared in shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe voice cast for the titular family includes Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson, Julie Kavner as Marge, Nancy Cartwright as Bart and Yeardley Smith as Lisa.<\/p>\n

\n\tReleased in July 2007, The Simpsons Movie collected $536 million at the global box office. The film centered on the Environmental Protection Agency encasing the Simpsons\u2019 hometown of Springfield in a dome after Homer taints the area\u2019s water supply. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn his review of The Simpsons Movie<\/a> for The Hollywood Reporter, critic Kirk Honeycutt wrote that the show\u2019s team \u201clabored long and hard to make a movie that hearkens back to the vintage years of the series.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued about the film, \u201cIt\u2019s caustic, irreverent, constantly amusing and a tiny bit rude. Not a lot, though. This isn\u2019t the Beavis and Butt-Head or South Park movie. It\u2019s almost \u2014 dare I say it \u2014 charming.\u201d<\/p>\n
