Singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen calls out Trump admin<\/p>\n

Bruce Springsteen called out the Trump administration during a recent show in the U.K., urging fans to “fight authoritarianism.”<\/p>\n

NEW YORK \u2212 Bruce Springsteen<\/a> didn\u2019t mince words at the premiere of his new biopic.<\/p>\n

The outspoken rock icon was on hand Sept. 28 for the New York Film Festival unveiling of \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere<\/a>,\u201d a new drama starring Jeremy Allen White (\u201cThe Bear\u201d) that traces the creation of the musician’s 1982 \u201cNebraska\u201d album. Springsteen, 76, took the stage with the film\u2019s cast and crew at the end of the screening, where he surprised the crowd with a solo acoustic performance of his emotional ballad \u201cLand of Hope and Dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese days, we have daily events reminding us of the fact that we’re living through these particularly dangerous times,\u201d Springsteen said as he introduced the song. \u201cI spent my life on the road. I\u2019ve been moving around the world as kind of a musical ambassador for America: trying to measure the distance between American reality, where we’ve often fallen short of our ideals and the American dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

But as \u201cbad as it feels right now, for a lot of folks out there, she continues to be a land of hope and dreams,\u201d he added. \u201cNot of fear or divisiveness or government censorship or hatred. That America is worth fighting for. So it’s in that spirit, I brought along my lifelong weapon of choice: the guitar.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New York premiere of the movie (in theaters Oct. 24<\/a>) comes two weeks after the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s controversial remarks about Kirk\u2019s killing prompted ABC to temporarily suspend his late-night TV show, which has prompted widespread concerns around free speech.<\/p>\n

Springsteen told the audience to \u201cstay strong\u201d as he left the stage, earning a standing ovation and chants of \u201cBruuuce!\u201d throughout the elated Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.<\/p>\n

Before the performance, Springsteen hugged and thanked White for putting his \u201cwhole heart and soul into the part. You did such a wonderful job \u2013 and for playing a much better-looking version of me. I\u2019m really thankful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musician also shared his gratitude for Jeremy Strong, who portrays his attentive manager Jon Landau, as well as his onscreen parents.<\/p>\n

\u201cStephen Graham, for being the living embodiment of my late father, who had a very difficult life but was a good-hearted man,\u201d Springsteen said. \u201cGaby Hoffmann, for her wonderful portrayal of my mom. They\u2019re all gone now, so it\u2019s nice to have this piece of film.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before Springsteen took the microphone, writer\/director Scott Cooper shared a story about how his family lost their home in the Palisades Fire in California earlier in 2025.<\/p>\n

Cooper\u2019s wife and kids were staying at a hotel when \u201cBruce said to me, \u2018Scott, get them out of the hotel. Take them to my house,\u2019\u201d Cooper recalls. \u201cWhich we did, and we stayed there until we got on our feet. Because that\u2019s who Bruce Springsteen is.
