First held on Kaua\u02bbi in 2023, the H\u014d\u02bbike is hosted this year by the City and County of Honolulu and will feature the Digital Economy Innovation Awards, honoring individuals and organizations advancing digital equity across Hawai\u02bbi.<\/p>\n<p>Day 1 \u2013 Monday, October 6: Community Site Visits &amp; Presentations<br \/>Participants may select from two tracks:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/hawaii-broadband-hoike-site-visit-option-1-hui-o-hauula-dr-fortress-tickets-1652687616149?aff=oddtdtcreator\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ko\u02bbolau Track<\/a> (Hau\u02bbula &amp; Honolulu) \u2013 Featuring Hui o Hau\u02bbula, the Ko\u02bbolau Broadband Coalition, DRFortress, and the Hawai\u02bbi Broadband Office. The panel and presentations will highlight how improved connectivity supports critical programs for children and seniors, from education and healthcare to housing and digital literacy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/hawaii-broadband-hoike-site-visit-option-2-waianae-coast-comprehensive-tickets-1652767003599?aff=oddtdtcreator\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wai\u02bbanae Coast Track<\/a> \u2013 Featuring Wai\u02bbanae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Pu\u02bbuhonua o Wai\u02bbanae, and the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. Highlights include Pu\u02bbuhonua o Wai\u02bbanae\u2019s transformation of a 20-acre parcel into a self-built village for formerly houseless residents and the creation of Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s second community-run broadband network. Projects such as the Lifeline for Wai\u02bbanae Moku Community Wi-Fi, Kupuna Tech Workshops, and\u00a0Tech Savvy Teens will also be showcased.<\/p>\n<p>Day 2 \u2013 Tuesday, October 7: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/hawaii-broadband-hoike-day-2-tickets-1612401800189?aff=oddtdtcreator\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Conference at Entrepreneurs Sandbox<br \/><\/a>The second day features panels, speakers, and presentations on Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s digital future, with participation from Microsoft, Hawaiian Telcom, Ocean Networks, Charter Communications, and government partners from Maui, Hawai\u02bbi, and Kaua\u02bbi Counties, as well as the State of Hawai\u02bbi.<\/p>\n<p>Opening remarks will be delivered by Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, followed by Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi in the afternoon. The conference will close with the Digital Economy Innovation Awards, recognizing outstanding community-led digital efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGatherings like this H\u014d\u02bbike are valuable for the community as a way to come together, share experiences, and collaborate to come up with solutions for shared challenges,\u201d said Garrett Yoshimi, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer at the University of Hawai\u02bbi. \u201cUH is leading the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program to build broadband infrastructure to un-and underserved communities throughout the islands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis H\u014d\u02bbike is about moving forward together. Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s digital future depends on the strength of our partnerships, from community organizations on the ground to industry leaders and policymakers,\u201d said Chung I. Chang, Strategic Broadband Coordinator at the Hawai\u02bbi Broadband Office. \u201cTogether, we are not just building networks of fiber and wireless.
