{"id":193459,"date":"2025-10-01T00:04:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T00:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/193459\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T00:04:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T00:04:06","slug":"new-artificial-intelligence-law-in-california-warns-of-catastrophic-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/193459\/","title":{"rendered":"New Artificial Intelligence Law In California Warns Of &#8220;Catastrophic Risks&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmid <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/sag-aftra-responds-ai-actress-tilly-norwood-1236565959\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the controversy<\/a> over <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ai\" data-tag=\"ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a>-generated \u201cactress\u201d Tilly Norwood, the State of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/california\/\" id=\"auto-tag_california\" data-tag=\"california\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California<\/a> yesterday adopted one of the first laws to regulate the development, oversight and safety of AI. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe language in <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/CA\/text\/SB53\/id\/3270002\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SB53<\/a> repeatedly targets potential \u201ccatastrophic risks\u201d posed by AI models that may \u201cmaterially contribute to the death of, or serious injury to, more than 50 people or more than one billion dollars ($1,000,000,000) in damage to, or loss of, property arising from a single incident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt includes the Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act, which sets forth mechanisms to ensure \u201cgreater transparency, whistleblower protections and incident reporting systems\u201d among AI developers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSpecifically, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sb53\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sb53\" data-tag=\"sb53\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SB53<\/a> requires that an AI developer:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t1.)  Incorporate \u201cnational standards, international standards, and industry-consensus best practices into its frontier AI framework\u201d;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t2.) Report \u201ca summary of any assessment of catastrophic risk\u201d that results from the use of its models;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t3.) Report any \u201ccritical safety incident\u201d and imposes \u201ca civil penalty for noncompliance\u201d of up to $1M;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t4.) Publish transparency reports that detail how it is incorporating the above-mentioned standards into its models; mitigating\u00a0and preventing potential catastrophic risks; identifying and responding to critical safety incidents; <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t5.
