Earlier this month, over 400 musicians\u2014including MJ Lenderman<\/a>, Massive Attack<\/a>, and Yaeji<\/a>\u2014and labels, among them Bayonet<\/a>, 10k<\/a>, and Pan<\/a>, signed up for a campaign<\/a> asking distributors to block their music from streaming in Israel. Now, Bj\u00f6rk has joined their ranks. The Icelandic legend has not issued a statement on her participation in the embargo, but her name is now listed among the artists on the No Music for Genocide<\/a> website.<\/p>\n

No Music for Genocide\u2019s mission statement calls on artists and labels to join the cultural embargo in protest of \u201cIsrael\u2019s genocide in Gaza; ethnic cleansing of the Occupied West Bank; apartheid within Israel,\u201d repression of pro-Palestine activism, and the music industry\u2019s links to \u201cweapons and crimes against humanity.\u201d The campaign arrives as numerous<\/a> artists<\/a> pull<\/a> their<\/a> catalogs<\/a> from<\/a> Spotify<\/a> entirely<\/a>, many citing now-Executive Chair<\/a> Daniel Ek\u2019s investments in artificial intelligence (AI) military technology through his venture fund, Prima Materia.<\/p>\n

Bj\u00f6rk shared her latest album, Fossora<\/a>, in 2022. She\u2019s since become an advocate<\/a> against unsustainable salmon farming practices in her native Iceland. Proceeds from \u201cOral<\/a>,\u201d her 2023 single with Rosal\u00eda<\/a>, went towards a legal case brought against Norwegian-owned commercial fishing operations by the residents of Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur. In November 2023, Bj\u00f6rk posted a graphic on Instagram<\/a> that displayed territory changes between Israel and Palestine since 1946 with the caption \u201cis this what you call sharing ?\u201d<\/p>\n
