{"id":19512,"date":"2025-07-18T17:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T17:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/19512\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T17:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T17:52:13","slug":"lorain-county-corrections-officer-charged-for-breaking-inmates-neck-2-years-ago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/19512\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorain County corrections officer charged for breaking inmate&#8217;s neck 2 years ago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Lorain County corrections officer who was accused of throwing a handcuffed inmate into a wall, leading to a broken neck two years ago, has been charged.<\/p>\n<p>The jailer, Brian Tellier, had been <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news5cleveland.com\/news\/local-news\/lorain-county-corrections-officer-suspended-after-allegedly-breaking-inmates-neck-in-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">suspended with pay<\/a> since January. <\/p>\n<p>According to court records, Tellier has been indicted on the following charges:<\/p>\n<p>felonious assaultthree counts of tampering with evidencedereliction of duty<\/p>\n<p>He was also indicted on two counts of endangering children, relating to a separate case in connection with an incident that occurred on Feb. 26, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Tellier is currently being held in the Erie County Jail in lieu of a $135,000 bond. He has also been put on unpaid administrative leave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to ensure our staff and inmates are held to the highest constitutional standards which resulted in the investigation of Officer Tellier\u2019s actions with inmate Fry,\u201d Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall said. \u201cWe feel we have conducted a thorough examination of the facts and presented a complete investigation to the grand jury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;You just broke my neck&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>On May 12, 2023, Jeff Fry was arrested by Elyria police on a misdemeanor bench warrant and taken to the Lorain County jail for booking.<\/p>\n<p>Video obtained by News 5 Investigators showed a Tellier walking Fry to a room for a body scan. But along the way, surveillance video showed Fry, who was handcuffed, appear to turn away from Tellier, who was escorting him.<\/p>\n<p>In an instant, Tellier appeared to lower his weight and fling Fry toward a wall.<\/p>\n<p>Fry\u2019s head and face hit the base of it.<\/p>\n<p>In a report to supervisors, Tellier wrote that Fry fell due to his \u201cinebriated and unstable state,\u201d and that Tellier \u201cguided\u201d Fry to the floor.<\/p>\n<p>But a lieutenant found that the report contained multiple inaccuracies and that Tellier used excessive force against Fry, who suffered a broken neck and paralysis.<\/p>\n<p>Watch more about what happened in the player below:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018You just broke my neck&#8217; \u2014 Man accuses jailer of assault, FBI investigating<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news5cleveland.com\/news\/local-news\/investigations\/you-just-broke-my-neck-man-accuses-jailer-of-assault-fbi-investigating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Man accuses jailer of assault, FBI investigating<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since then, Fry filed a $40 million lawsuit against the former sheriff, Tellier and others, alleging civil rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>Hall turned over the investigation to the Corrections Inspector General in January 2025.
