The city of Aurora is offering a free home internet security course and virtual cybersecurity workshop during October, which is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.<\/p>\n

Aurora\u2019s Information Technology Department is collaborating with KnowBe4, an internet security awareness training platform, to offer city residents a free home internet security course designed to help families make smart, safe decisions online, according to a city news release.<\/p>\n

Available throughout the month of October, the course will help community members identify security awareness, understand how cybercriminals operate and learn how to protect themselves from cyber-attacks, city officials said in the news release.<\/p>\n

The free home internet security course can be accessed by going to www.aurora.il.us\/FreeInternetSecurityCourse<\/a> and logging in using the password \u201chomecourse,\u201d the news release said.<\/p>\n

Aurora is also participating in the Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champions Program to promote online safety and privacy awareness, according to the news release.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Alliance, the news release said, the city will host a virtual cybersecurity workshop entitled \u201cThink You\u2019re Hiding On The Internet?\u201d at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 9.<\/p>\n

City officials said the free session is set to be led by social media influencer Kristen Sotakoun and Executive Director of the National Cybersecurity Alliance Lisa Plaggemier who will teach about how the community can avoid being manipulated or deceived with publicly available data, along with some tips to improve internet privacy.<\/p>\n
