HOLDEN BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The Holden Beach Turtle Watch (HBTW) has concluded its 37th season and, with it, announced its turtle statistics for the year.<\/p>\n
According to the program\u2019s website<\/a>, HBTW \u201cmonitors, protects and preserves\u201d the sea turtle population of Holden Beach, and fosters \u201ccommunity-based conservation and education.\u201d<\/p>\n The stats for 2025 are as follows:<\/p>\n 35 nests2389 hatchlings4012 known eggs<\/p>\n According to HBTP, the first turtle nest was laid on May 22, and the last nest was laid on July 26.<\/p>\n HBTW states that these stats are lower than those of the 2024 season, and that it is because of storms in the region.<\/p>\n \u201cIt should be noted that Hurricane Erin didn\u2019t make landfall in Brunswick County, North Carolina, but did bring large waves and high tides onto our beaches, resulting in significant overwash and water inundation and 6-12\u201d of sand on top of our remaining nests after the tides receded, many times,” said the Town of Holden Beach in a post to Facebook.<\/a><\/p>\n Copyright 2025 WECT.
