Though there are a half dozen deer who come around every day, but I have never personally seen a moose, unfortunately.

I guess all the moose want to meet cute Labrador Retrievers instead. When one of them was on a walk not too long ago, he managed to come face-to-face with a baby moose who was coming out of the woods. A fairytale isn’t even as precious as this:

Donna Freeman is lucky that she got to witness this, but she’s also very lucky that no one was hurt. This will be a cool story forever!

Related: Horse’s Hilarious First Time Seeing a Zebra Is Total Chaos

Donna and her pups are not from Maine: they’re Canadian! That explains the moose. She mostly posts about her yoga and some day in the life stuff, so there’s not too much about the dogs there. She did post the most important thing, though: a moose meet and greet.

The moose is definitely super young: not only are they small, but they’re a little shaky on those long legs, and they look a little wet. Like maybe they haven’t been cleaned off completely yet or something. Whatever the case, they seemed a little scared of the dogs!

The dogs were curious, but they’re harmless. They’re so silly that they have to eat their dinner off the floor:

As long as the moose baby isn’t a line of kibble, I think they’ll be okay. Luckily, this interaction went off without incident!

Keeping Dogs Safe From Moose

Have I ever seen a moose at home? No. Am I a little scared? Yes. I have three dogs who love trouble (one of them is literally named Trubble, so…), so I know they wouldn’t act right around a moose. If you live in an area with moose, you need to be sure you’re prepared.

Rule number one: if you see a baby moose, get your dogs out of there, stat. Mama is coming, and she will not be happy that you’re there. Don’t run; you could spook the baby. Instead, just slowly back away, not turning your back on the animal until you’re a good distance away.

If you’re on a trail that is known for moose (most will have signs), keep your dogs on a leash. Never allow them to approach or they will get hurt!

🐶SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾

This story was originally reported by Parade Pets on Oct 2, 2025, where it first appeared in the Pet News section.
