separating in September 2017<\/a> after eight years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in November 2019.<\/p>\nIn 2022, the \u201cAll My Children\u201d alum married model Audra Mari Duhamel and the former Fargo, ND, beauty queen welcomed their son, Shepherd Lawrence, in January 2024.<\/p>\n

The \u201cTransformers\u201d star admitted that he\u2019s fallen for the Minnesota wilderness and the idea of living outside the glitz and glamour confines of LA with his wife and two sons.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that was what I weirdly fell in love with,\u201d Duhamel said. \u201cIt became about just the basics, hand-to-mouth, making sure that I could take care of everybody, and we had enough just to stay alive out there, especially in the winter.\u201d<\/p>\n
But after 15 years, Duhamel\u2019s Minnesota property has become less of a project and more of a \u201cnormalized\u201d home.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that was the beginning,\u201d he shared. \u201cNow it\u2019s pretty. We\u2019ve got all the amenities that we need. I still try to keep it a bit like it used to be. But it\u2019s nice to have a warm shower and a toilet.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not using outhouses anymore, thank God,\u201d Duhamel joked.<\/p>\n
As for \u201cLondon Calling,\u201d the actor opened up about what led him to choose a role where he portrays a hired gun in an action comedy \u2013 especially after 25 years of mostly soap operas, rom-coms and Westerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that when you start, you just kind of take whatever you can get and try to make the most of whatever opportunity,\u201d he told The Post regarding the trajectory of his career as an actor. \u201cAnd that was what I did when I first started, I just tried to take whatever little window of opportunity I had and just jump through it.\u201c<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a really fun 25 years,\u201d Duhamel continued. \u201cI learned a lot over the years. You make decisions differently based on family, based on location, based on director, based on script.\u201d<\/p>\n
He went on to reveal the two most important things he now looks for when choosing roles.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than anything, if you don\u2019t have a great script, I try to stay away from it because it\u2019s hard to make a good movie if you don\u2019t have a good script,\u201d Duhamel told The Post. \u201cAnd I just try to surround myself, whether it\u2019s as an actor or a director, with the best talent and not just talent, but good people.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cLife is too short not to work with really good, easy people who don\u2019t take themselves too seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Allan Ungar-directed flick, which hit theaters Sept. 19, stars Duhamel as Tommy Ward, a hitman and British expat hiding out in LA after accidentally killing the relative of London\u2019s biggest crime lord.<\/p>\n

Duhamel said the role forced him \u201cto get [his] ass in shape,\u201d and opened up about how being healthy for an action-heavy film like \u201cLondon Calling\u201d was \u201cdefinitely a motivator.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s what the fun part about this is,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery job is a little bit different. Sometimes you got to be really, really ready. Sometimes you don\u2019t. This business forces you to kind of keep your body, your health and everything else in check.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that this is a movie that really required that because there was a lot of action, a lot of running, a lot of wrestling around, a lot of flying around in the dirt,\u201d he explained. \u201cWhich I love.
