Last week, just days before The Savant was set to premiere on Apple TV+, the series was unexpectedly pulled<\/a> from the release schedule. Now, Variety has published its review<\/a> of the show and calls it \u201cessential television.\u201d<\/p>\n The Savant praised in early review of postponed Apple TV+ series<\/p>\n If you had never heard of Apple TV+ series The Savant before last week, you\u2019ve likely heard of it since.<\/p>\n The limited series was originally set to debut last Friday, September 26 before it was pulled from Apple\u2019s release schedule with no explanation given.<\/p>\n Apple\u2019s only statement at the time read: \u201cAfter careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.\u201d<\/p>\n Star Jessica Chastain later shared<\/a> that she was \u201cnot aligned\u201d with Apple on its decision to delay the release.<\/p>\n Now, an early review of The Savant has been published by Variety<\/a>, with TV critic Aramide Tinubu calling the series \u201cessential television\u201d in a praise-laden review.<\/p>\n Here are some key quotes:<\/p>\n \u201cThe Savant is brilliant and unsettling\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe series is riveting throughout, but it works best when depicting the cost of discriminatory speech and cruelty\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn these fraught political times, The Savant is essential television\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMost disturbing is the series\u2019 depiction of how this type of violence and groupthink spreads. The Savant unsettlingly holds up a mirror to the country, showing viewers what it will cost if we continue down this path.\u201d<\/p>\n Curiously, the review is available on Apple News but not on Variety\u2019s website.
