\n\tTelemundo Studios<\/a> is focusing on three strategic pillars and betting on live programming to compete with streaming giants, Javier Pons<\/a>, who was promoted to the role of chief content officer and head of\u00a0the production arm of Comcast<\/a>\u2018s NBCUniversal<\/a> Telemundo<\/a> Enterprises earlier this year, told an industry gathering in Madrid on Tuesday.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\n\tThe guidance from his bosses overall is \u201cto play offensively,\u201d Pons told the industry audience. Live content is one key element of this. \u201cThe ability to create live programming is the only way to beat streaming,\u201d he argued. \u201cLive cannot be beaten.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a spotlight session at the fifth annual<\/a> Iberseries<\/a> & Platino Industria, he also highlighted his team\u2019s focus on fiction and formats that reinforce its identity in the U.S. Hispanic market, along with outlining three core strategies.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA key focus is the creation of our own IP.\u00a0Therefore, it is a priority to create original series,\u201d Pons said, according to an English translation of his comments made in Spanish. \u201cAnd I think we\u2019ve moved toward a more collaborative world, which is why the second point is multi-windowing,\u201d meaning making content available in various distribution windows, he added. <\/p>\n

\n\tFinally, \u201cthe third point is the diversification of formats,\u201d the Telemundo Studios<\/a> content chief said. \u201cIn the past, [our work] was practically limited to making long-running series for our network. There used to be series of between 80 and 95 one-hour episodes that we broadcast in primetime.\u201d But that has changed now, he said: \u201cFor the last year and a half, what we have been trying to do is expand the focus and launch a strategy to also create short series, docuseries and scripted series for streaming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis appearance came late on the first day of Iberseries & Platino Industria 2025.
