On Tuesday\u2019s (September 30) edition of The View<\/a>, Joy Behar<\/a> shared a grim prediction about the future of America under Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s second term. After discussing Pete Hegseth<\/a>\u2018s controversial gathering of America\u2019s military generals to announce sweeping changes to training policies, the second \u201cHot Topic\u201d of the day was the looming shutdown and Trump\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hours away from a government shutdown, and instead of working on a solution, Trump posted a deep fake AI video last night that featured things Senator Schumer never said, and had Minority Leader [Hakeem] Jeffries wearing a sombrero and a mustache. \u2026 Charming.\u201d<\/p>\n

After reviewing footage of the post in question and key reactions, Behar continued, \u201cRepublicans are trying to blame Democrats for the shutdown, but the Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House, and some people might even say the Supreme Court. So how do you blame the Democrats for a shutdown when you have all the votes?\u201d<\/p>\n

After cohosts Sara Haines<\/a>, Sunny Hostin<\/a>, and Alyssa Farah Griffin<\/a> discussed the merits of the matter, Behar summed up her takeaway like so: \u201cIf you guys think that we can survive another three and a half years of this, I think you\u2019re delusional. Every day, there\u2019s some nihilistic thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

As her cohosts attempted to weigh in, she continued, \u201cI hate to be a Debbie Downer, but every day, he\u2019s undoing something in this country that we value. Every day. It\u2019s every day. It\u2019s a shock and awe [campaign] here. And I, for one, am skeptical that we\u2019ll survive this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haines disagreed, saying, \u201cI am not. I believe in our future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Griffin challenged her claim by saying, \u201cBut Joy, you\u2019ve seen worse,\u201d perhaps referencing comments Behar made in the past<\/a> about the turbulent times she grew up in.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I have not. I grew up during World War II,\u201d she noted, adding that the problems the country faced at the time \u201cwere all dealt with by presidents who were not in the business of destroying the country, destroying the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always had presidents who followed the law, including [Richard] Nixon, as bad as he was, he felt he had respected the Constitution,\u201d she said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t go after the military and call them names. I\u2019ve never heard of such a thing in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n
