{"id":207487,"date":"2025-10-07T21:23:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T21:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/207487\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T21:23:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T21:23:05","slug":"these-yoga-block-mobility-drills-are-a-game-changer-for-stiff-shoulders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/207487\/","title":{"rendered":"These yoga block mobility drills are a game-changer for stiff shoulders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"9d963929-85a5-4c2e-b36b-ace7184547ee\">A lot of my personal training clients suffer with stiff shoulders, so we often spend a good chunk of our warm-up focusing on mobility in this area.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s actually a common problem for Americans, according to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.discmdgroup.com\/physicians\/dickran-altounian-do\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.discmdgroup.com\/physicians\/dickran-altounian-do\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dr Dickran Altounian<\/a>, a certified specialist in physical medicine, rehabilitation and pain management.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"9d963929-85a5-4c2e-b36b-ace7184547ee-2\">\u201cIf you\u2019re sitting at your desk for long periods in a slouched position with bad ergonomics, that poor posture increases the risk of tightening muscles and weakening opposing muscles, resulting in stiffness and tension,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>The best way to deal with this issue is with regular movement and stretching.<\/p>\n<p>I often use drills like the ones below as a warm-up for my clients, but you can also use them as a simple mobility break during the day.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-how-to-do-the-mobility-drills\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>How to do the mobility drills<\/p>\n<p id=\"0b59ec4b-6a8d-49d1-a345-5dbd52d0fdbd\">The moves come from trainer, mobility coach and stretching specialist <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/movementbyalisa\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/movementbyalisa\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Movement By Alisa<\/a>\u2014all you need to do them is a yoga block.<\/p>\n<p>Take your time and aim for 10 repetitions per arm, completing two to three rounds in total.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Start your week with achievable workout ideas, health tips and wellbeing advice in your inbox.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-e00ab452-5b7d-4289-9208-6522092972eb\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><a id=\"elk-why-do-so-many-of-us-have-limited-shoulder-mobility-and-what-can-we-do-about-it\" href=\"\" data-url=\"\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>Why do so many of us have limited shoulder mobility\u2014and what can we do about it?<\/p>\n<p id=\"c8b75a6a-6d5c-4c40-b232-823ed4726d15\">Dr Altounian says that we should all be moving more often if we want healthier shoulders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important that if you do have limited shoulder mobility and are mostly sedentary, especially for work, that you take frequent breaks every hour to stretch, including overhead reaches, stretching the shoulders with different positions,\u201d he advises.<\/p>\n<p>He also suggests that you try resetting your posture regularly, checking that your head is up, shoulders back and chin tucked into a neutral position.
