The 51-year-old comedian has been hosting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC since 2014.<\/p>\n
In the wake of fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> being briefly suspended by ABC<\/a> after making comments about the death of Charlie Kirk<\/a>, there have been concerns about censorship and instability within the TV industry under the presidency of Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n Fallon was asked if he felt any pressure when writing his own show during a Tuesday, Sept. 30 interview on CNBC. He explained that the goal isn’t to make a political statement when putting together a monologue.<\/p>\n \u201cOur show has never really been that political, you know. We hit both sides equally, and we try to make everybody laugh, and that\u2019s really the way our show works,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cOur monologues are kind of the same that we\u2019ve been doing since Johnny Carson was hosting the\u00a0Tonight Show. So really, I just keep my head down and make sure the jokes are funny,” Fallon added.<\/p>\n The Saturday Night Live alum complimented his staff of “clever, smart writers,” stressing, “We’re just trying to make the best show we possibly can and entertain everybody.”<\/p>\n Despite his apolitical stance, Fallon did address Kimmel’s suspension<\/a> and subsequent preempting by various broadcasting companies<\/a> during the Sept. 18 episode of his show.<\/p>\n “Well guys, the big story is that Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC after pressure from the FCC, leaving everyone thinking WTF? What’s going on?’ ” Fallon said in the opening seconds of his monologue.<\/p>\n He continued, quipping, “This morning I woke up to 100 text messages from my dad saying, ‘I’m sorry they canceled your show.’ And I go, ‘That’s not me!’ That’s Jimmy Kimmel!’ “<\/p>\n Admitting that he didn’t “know what’s going on,” Fallon went on to praise Kimmel as “a decent, funny and loving guy.”<\/p>\n “And I hope he comes back,” he added.<\/p>\n Evans Vestal Ward\/NBC via Getty<\/p>\n Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, from left<\/p>\n “A lot of people are worried that we won’t keep saying what we want to say, or that we’ll be censored. But I’m going to cover the president’s trip to the U.K. just like I normally would,” Fallon joked before breaking into a skit where his remarks were heavily censored to praise Trump.<\/p>\n On Sept. 23, Fallon jokingly reminded viewers<\/a> that they were watching the wrong Jimmy on late-night TV if they wanted to hear Kimmel’s comments about his comeback<\/a>.<\/p>\n Fallon also laughed when his guest Sean Penn<\/a> urged the FCC to “suck less”<\/a> during his Sept. 22 episode.<\/p>\n Todd Owyoung\/NBC via Getty<\/p>\n Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n Never miss a story \u2014 sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter<\/a> to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer\u200b\u200b, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.<\/p>\n Back in July, Trump predicted on Truth Social that Fallon’s show would be cancelled<\/a> following the news that Stephen Colbert<\/a>‘s late-night show was not returning after its 10th and final season<\/a>.<\/p>\n “The word is, and it\u2019s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,” he wrote on the social media platform.<\/p>\n “These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television.
