The model, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/technology\/google-deepmind\/gemini-computer-use-model\/#:~:text=Google%20is%20releasing%20the%20Gemini,control%20benchmarks%20with%20lower%20latency.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called Gemini 2.5 Computer Use<\/a>, uses \u201cvisual understanding and reasoning capabilities\u201d to analyze a user\u2019s request and carry out a task, such as filling out and submitting a form.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">It can be used for UI testing or navigating interfaces made for people who don\u2019t have an API or other direct connection available. Other versions of this model have been used for agentic features in AI Mode and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/12\/11\/24317436\/google-deepmind-project-astra-mariner-ai-agent#:~:text=Google%20kept%20its%20agent%20demos%20low%2Dstakes.%20With%20Project%20Mariner%2C%20for%20instance%2C%20I%20watched%20an%20employee%20pull%20up%20a%20recipe%20in%20Google%20Docs%2C%20click%20the%20Chrome%20extension%20toolbar%20to%20open%20Mariner%E2%80%99s%20side%20panel%2C%20and%20type%20in%20%E2%80%9CAdd%20all%20the%20veggies%20from%20this%20recipe%20to%20my%20Safeway%20cart.%E2%80%9D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Project Mariner<\/a>, a research prototype that uses AI agents to carry out tasks on its own in a browser, like adding items to your cart based on a list of ingredients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Google\u2019s announcement comes just one day after OpenAI revealed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/793039\/openai-chatgpt-apps-developers-sdk-canva-zillow-devday-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new apps for ChatGPT<\/a> as part of its annual Dev Day, and continues to focus its attention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/709158\/openai-new-release-chatgpt-agent-operator-deep-research\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on its ChatGPT Agent feature<\/a> that can complete complex tasks on your behalf. Meanwhile, Anthropic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/10\/22\/24276822\/anthopic-claude-3-5-sonnet-computer-use-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">had already released<\/a> a version of its Claude AI model with \u201ccomputer use\u201d last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Google posted some demo videos showing its computer use tool in action, and notes that they are sped up 3x.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Google says its computer use model \u201coutperforms leading alternatives on multiple web and mobile benchmarks.\u201d Unlike ChatGPT Agent and Anthropic\u2019s computer use tool, Google\u2019s new AI model only has access to a browser \u2014 not an entire computer environment.
